Thread regarding Ford layoffs

How long did it take you to find a new job?

I've been trying for a little longer than three months without any success and it makes me very frustrated. If the situation on the job market continues to get worse, it will not be good at all.

Following SRD, it took a year and 8 months to get a once-a-week part-time job. It was solely based on a recommendation from a childhood friend and a hobby I enjoy -- nothing from my years at ford was ever asled

I think you misread the comment you replied to. It was a response to someone else complaining about outsourcing staff, and the message you replied to was just telling that post if they want to prevent continued outsourcing, then speak with your pocket and buy local design/built product instead of relying on cheap labor outside america.

I have no interest in going to work for the suppliers I work with. They are the source of many of our recalls and can’t engineer their way out of a paper bag.

I think finding a new position quickly depends on skills, experience and luck. I have a relative who was laid off in December and after sending hundreds of resumes still hasn’t found a job. I believe this person has too many degrees as they keep hearing they’re over qualified. I know two other people who were laid off in June and started working at new positions in July with significant salary increases. Both were in IT.

@zju+1igLyvUE,

"Want to fix the problem with outsourcing and keep jobs here? Don't complain."

I work in quality and validation; it is our job to complain. If anything, there is not enough complaining! Warranty costs are in the billions, massive recalls, and quality issues from work that has been outsourced! To point fingers at someone and say they are the "problem" because they are "complaining" is counterproductive.

People that are swimming in the ocean wouldn't dismiss someone away "complaining" about shark fins nearby. People were dismissed away "complaining" about the Titanic sailing too fast at night with icebergs nearby. Financial experts were dismissed away "complaining" that the stock market was overvalued, and banks over extended credit during the 1920's. Engineers are "complaining" that the electrical is not ready to handle millions of EVs.

Too many really productive and smart engineers, get dismissed away when they see problems that need to be fixed.

i started looking outside in July, got an offer two days back. I am moving to new company after labor day weekend.

I have 7 years of ford experience. The next company is a supplier who offered me 30% more than my current pay and better benefits.

Plus the bonus for each employee every year is same as the manager and is above 10k .

So if you start looking you will find something good, just start & never turn back.

What exactly is an "ICE person"? Even if an engineer was working with ICE vehicles chances are they have a mechanical degree. A mechanical degree can be transferred
to a wide array of jobs. There is life outside of automotive.

What people don't understand is the problem of outsourcing, not ICE vs EVs. I.T is the easiest to outsource.

What is interesting, most electrical engineers have little good to say about EV's.

If you are an ICE person, you may not get any JOB. Too many ICE people all over Detroit. If you are an IT guy even if you are an H1B person, you will get a good paying (>$100K) in few months
