Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Where’s the dividend?

Look at the minimal dividend that this stock is paying. Why don’t they stop the buybacks and the big capital dump into low carbon and give the money to the shareholders.

The bump up in the dividend was a welcome surprise. Now if the stock could get back in the 70s that would be great.

You should try listening to the investor calls. They do one every quarter. This may surprise you, but sometimes during the Q&A portion, analysts ask Vicki about the dividend. She has given pretty clear responses that answer your question.

Go buy a good dividend stock if Oxy isn’t serving your dividend desires.

Shareholders got massive stock price appreciation. Why are you whining about the dividend?
——————————————————-
Depends on the time horizon. If you owned Oxy stock on April 11, 2019, the stock closed at $67.18/share and Oxy paid a $3.12/yr dividend (>4.5% yield).

Oxy stock closed today at $64.13/share and the annual dividend is $0.52/share for a <1% yield.

Not a massive appreciation for any long term holders…more like massive value destruction.

But we are zeroing in, focusing on CCS and DIB and have our ERGs so everything is awesome now.

There is no substitute for income. It is risk free and actually counts for something when you are applying for a loan. There is too much risk assuming that the price will drive higher when shares are bought back. My experience says buybacks don’t work for anyone but executives.
