So I was effected (level 57) and I’ve been mentally preparing for it to happen since it was announced. Mostly because I read between the lines and just felt like I was making the most out of all other 57s on the team and this was a pure cost cutting measure. Oh well. Life moves on.
Now that it has simmered, I candidly feel a sense of relief. I have had several interviews and enter the final round this coming week with some companies. I started the process back in July so to anyone who has waited till now to start, seriously good luck out there. Back to Schwab…
I had a couple managers who were great. But I could tell they were getting worn out by decisions from on high and having to use a machete to cut through red tape to get anything done. Schwab is a company with a strict refusal to do new things and change or grow. It only says it will, and a “challenger mindset” means nothing in practice. Only the most loyal of drone can move up, and they are also generally the worst at their actual job.
For everyone left, good luck with the re org. The layoffs were tough but I can genuinely say that will be worse. And come January there will only be more headache. My advice so to take a hard look at your job and ask is this where you want to be spending the majority of your time for the next few years?
