I think that simply cutting jobs isn't the answer.
To be successful, companies need to change how the business is operated.

Aside from founders executives rarely care about companies they run - they are just like you or I, here to make a buck. So, if layoffs in the short term help them move the stock up and enrich themselves (even though they know things will collapse in the future) - they will do it.
