Thread regarding Ford layoffs

How do I do the bare minimum to survive performance management?

I am pretty checked out and don't want to be here a year from now and want to just keep collecting paychecks . Morale is low and I don't really respect or like any of my co workers. Mediocre people in general and un inspiring.

The most important thing I learned from 25+ years with Ford is that "perception is everything".
Enthusiastically agree with everything management says.
Buzz words include...

Great idea
Right way
I'll get right on that

But wait there's more!

Every few months ask your manager for feedback.
How am I doing boss?
Any recommendations on how to improve my performance?
Is there anything I can do to help you with your assignments?

Management eats that cr-ah-p up!

Just remember. "Perception is everything". I've seen so many incompetent people get promoted only from perception and talk.

As the old saying goes, there's "one" born every minute. That is why Ford continues to hire. If you have a pulse, you are good to go. For that matter, even if you don't you can get hired.

If you're working outside the 40 hours/week you're paid for then you're doing your job as a hobby. Cool if that’s your hobby but Ford generally will not pay you to do what you are willing to do for free, or value you for that matter.

The sad reality of the low morale is the company's own fault. Promoting non qualified candidates to positions they should not be in. The company is run like a communist regime, they destroy peoples incentive to do better and it all starts at the top.

I get your point, but everybody is in the "race-to-the-bottom". We all want to pay the least we can, and who volunteers to pay more?
Everyone wants to earn top dollar and we know that whatever product or service we create has to be sold for top dollar. But nobody wants to pay top dollar for what the other guy does. That's the way people are. Human nature.

Don’t hate the player hate the game.

Some still believe that RTO or the old-world values of decency, hard work, and integrity are going to save your job.

But corporations today are teaching you all a very different lesson.

In this sad pathetic game of race-to-the-bottom just make sure you win in the end.

@qlu - I was let go last week, just like I wanted with some severance. Yup - "There's a su---r born every minute." I used to be the fool like you - working long hours, neglecting other things in Life, etc., but the way ford treated myself and so many other good workers over the SRD of 2018 I decided then that is was time for ford to be the 'su---r' now . . . so I played the politics, made the appearances, got back my LL6 I lost over SRD all without hardly working at all because I knew our positions were moving to mexico, so I just kept pushing all the work onto them. Was a pretty nice 5 your 'working vacation' actually ! F Ford first !! The fools who worked long hours and did all the extras thinking it would make a difference got let go anyhow. Ha !

How disappointing to see what you wrote. I had been with Ford for 19 years when my job was “eliminated”. I worked 60 hour weeks, was productive and got good reviews, promotions, etc. I was a loyal and devoted employee and somewhat surprised when I was let go last year. With the exception of occasionally kicking myself in the hind end for giving Ford too much of my life I have moved on and I’m doing well. I’m typically not bitter about it but it does rub me the wrong way when I realize that people whose goal is to do as little as possible were kept and I was kicked to the curb.

Why would I do that?

To bust my bu-t and work over time for 1 of 2 outcomes

  1. Get fired in September
  2. Get a mediocre raise or promotion

I’m sure many people have “checked out”. That’s what happens when companies have round after round of layoffs with no clear or logical pattern to who gets canned.
