Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

CES Response

Wanted to throw this out there because Ive been picking up some interesting chatter around the building lately. Word on the floor is that leadership might be looking at bringing back some flexible working options, specifically the ability to go remote on Mondays again.

If thats true it would be such a smart move. It shows theyre really listening and trying to find that right balance between great in-person work and giving people the flexibility they need to start the week strong from home. Then we all come back Tuesday fired up and ready to collaborate even better.

Chevrons always been good at adapting and this feels like another example of them putting the team first while still protecting everything weve built with the open plan setup. Morale would probably get a nice boost and wed likely see people even more engaged the rest of the week.

Has anyone else been hearing similar signals from their side or managers? Especially curious what the field and ops crews are picking up since their schedules are different out there.

Being in the office in downtown Houston is crushing the spirits and motivation af so many good people. There is not much actual work going on, only people passing time until the next EOI or restructuring. It is the least collaborative place I’ve ever seen.

@yd, Absolutely! And the "many people" who are more productive at home translates to about 5% of the current CVX workforce. For the rest, showing up either subtly "encourages" them to tighten up or let's everyone else around them know who needs to be on the chopping block much more easily. Either way, Win- win!

@y9 Work ethic is work ethic. If you’re lazy, you’re lazy at the office and at home. If you need an office environment and coworkers to inspire you to do your job, that’s on you.

Many people are more productive at home where they don’t have to put on the uniform, commute 2 hours a day, and deal with the faux social aspect of working in an office listening to people talk about how awesome they are and chalk up the 45 minute brag session as part of their work day.

Physically being at Home equates to working even less, in almost all cases.

@qt Physically being in the office doesn’t equate to ‘working’.

@qr that’s what I work, and I can tell you the folks in the morning aren’t the same folks in the evening. Take a look in the mirror and really admit if you’re doing an actual 80 hrs in 2 weeks.

@qr oh please. Be serious. Folks may “login,” but use the “meet now,” trick or a physical device to show available. Let’s be real

6-3:30 is 9.5 hours… plus time we log in from home.. seems like we work more than enough… even if caching a bus or van

I get to work around 6am. 95% of the time I’m alone on my floor and there’s maybe 5 people around the ring. By 330, most people are gone. And yall bi--hing about the # of days in office? Work what you’re supposed to now, then bi--h when you do that.

My guess is you’re one that is “tied to the bus schedule.”

This is all fake news, remember if they change course then there will be accountability question which they dont want to get involved.

Leadership is also very upset with this dissatisfaction with Open Play and unassigned seating. They are looking to put a hold on HMP

No, but they are talking about making in-office Fridays mandatory.

@by but are we really here and present or are our minds on all the things we have to cram in after work instead of getting them done in small ways throughout the day?

Rotating laundry between meetings, picking up groceries over lunch, genuinely feeling like we’re present with our families in the evening? That was so valuable over the years we had it and it helped me truly enjoy my work and perform at the top of my game.

I doubt that you can have a boomer CEO and work flexibility the same time. Their brains aren't adaptable to a world they didn't grow up in. They grew up sitting in offices and conference rooms and will make sure you do too. If MW is in charge, work flexibility will get worse and not better. He needs to go first and that's not happening soon.

I don’t believe it. I’m not sure enough people are leaving to drive such a reversal. Why unwind this when you have us all here Monday - Thursday?
