Thread regarding 3M layoffs

3M RTO Policy

Hi All - I am not with 3M but I am trying to build a list of different approaches to RTO. I am focusing on large companies that have presence here on layoffs.com (I am assuming I can get employees to speak up here). Anyhow, if you feel comfortable sharing a blurb on what the current policy is please reply to this thread. I'll tag it on all boards where I ask the question with #RTOpolicy

Thanks in advance!

Yes, very good summary below. I’ve been describing it to people as “you’re an adult. Talk to your manager and decide what works best for you”

I’m going to admit that even as a long term employee who thinks highly of 3M (let’s exclude the last couple years in this that statement), I’m impressed. We have a history of being a pretty conservative corporate culture, and I would not have expected 3M to lead the way on flexibility here.

My team also is split about evenly between Maplewood based employees and European and LATAM based employees. Our focus has been how to make the fact that getting everyone together, even for important meetings, isn’t an option still work for us. Identify what needs improvement, brainstorm, and try to see if the ideas solve for the issue. Amazing how well that’s worked.

RTO means return to zero at 3M, meaning the stock price of 120 years ago when we were just the twinkle in some smart peoples eye. There will never be return to office under these dipsh!ts, nobody is that stupid or desperate

What rock have you been living under if you don't know what RTO means? SMDH. Return To Office.

WTF is RTO? Of all the TLAs used at MMM, this is not one in my repertoire.

The official policy for office workers is "Work Your Way," which means you choose, and discuss with your manager, from remote, hybrid or in-office. How this works in practice varies by team and leadership. My team does not go into the office, except for occasional meetings if they're local, and has fully remote employees not near HQ. A friend in corporate (I'm in the Health Care group about to be spun offline), her team all goes into the office on Tuesdays. Some new job postings are hybrid, some are remote.
