Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Is The Pay Increase Worth Staying

It seems like the company is providing a general broad increase to salaries. But is it worth it? The company’s philosophy has always been to throw money around to solve problems including personnel. In some ways it seems to work. How many people will now put up with the toxic environment and managers with a few more glass beads in their pockets.

I left a few months ago to a much better job. No pay increase would have stopped me from bailing.

I was offered 12% a year ago but only after I submitted my retirement papers. I didn't take the money and I'm not one bit sorry. Very toxic culture.

Dude, this place is bad, you only realize it after you leave. I am a completely different and much happier person after I left Exxon. I am much more productive on my new job. No high raise would make me stay at Exxon.

Yes. All companies are similar to me, and so now there is no financial incentive to leave. I neither hate nor love xom culture. It'd really just about working for money, for me. Plenty of time for fun after 5p.

I'm probably in the minority here, but in my case I've got a particular savings target I'm trying to hit before I bail out of EM. With that in mind, more pay simply accelerates my ability to hit that target and my eventual departure.

Generally speaking will more money help with retention? Sure it will - but it only papers over a lot of the core systemic problems with the company culture and poor leadership.

No. There comes a point where no amount of money will make it worth staying. Earlier this year, I reached that point. It wasn’t just one thing that took me over the edge. It was the culmination of too many incidents of gaslighting, lack of appreciation/respect, and the no accountability for upper management.

I’m still working at XOM, but retiring in January. I’m leaving much earlier than expected, but much later than I should have.

And here you are still trolling the site. It's like stalking your ex girlfriend/boyfriend because you're not over them. If you're not here then bye!

Those of us still here we’ve proven we’ll take any amount of S%*t the company will throw at us. Was that the plan all along -weed out those not commit to the cause while getting the higher salary employees to leave voluntarily?

The last 2 years has proven the true nature of the company and management. We’ve basically accepted that we’ll work on a year to year contract basis and train our replacements in low cost centers.

For me the 12% pay increase is not worth it. I’m actively looking and hope to have something early next year.

@xmw+1k4avVNP you nailed it… probably a little of both. Sometimes, I do wonder if I made the right decision to leave; financially it was a great situation. Feels like salt in the wound seeing all the big pay bumps right now, and knowing what I walked away from… several million over the next decade I expected to work before retiring. But, who’s to say I would’ve made it - and not dropped dead of a heart attack or cancer from the stress of my “career”?

From a mental (and physical) health perspective (and general self respect!) I had to get out. I check this website every so often to reassure myself - time and again - I made the right decision.

For my ultimate health, I need to 100% put EM in the rearview mirror and completely disconnect. Hopefully, soon….

I’m curious as to why people are still with the company after the last 2 years. That’s even more intriguing.

I'm curious to the reason why people who have left still checking this forum. This forum is negative by nature and I thought when you move on wouldn't you want to put all of these behind you?

What is in your mind? Like are you trying to justify the decision? Or perhaps some regret? Or other reasons?
