Any news on expat positions being reduced? I’m all for expatriates but at times like this, it’s fair to see expat positions significantly reduced. This potentially could save extra regular payroll positions.

It looks like many TCO expat positions are going to European contractors as part of cost saving.
Unless you walk on water and have superpowers to finish TCO virtually in a week, time for you to go home. No open Pubs in the UK will await you. Sorry.
I'm sorry but with the screen-sharing and collaborative technology we have today, the need for Expats should theoretically be less than the need was in the mid-2000s (ceteris paribus), but I've seen an increase. Agree with the earlier poster re: career Expats. I do know of some Expat positions where 3 or 4 trips overseas would have sufficed (and admittedly I was an Expat, but it was in the early 2000s)
I really have issues with long time career expats that have never worked in their home BUs. I see no added value by some of these individuals. They must have contacts high up in CVX.
@xjd, What a joke. What kind of "key decisions"?
the kind that lose money? How about if they are providing a mandatory business need and function, which many are not. As you say, this is not a charity, so that's EXACTLY why they should be cut, like you based on your lack of business knowledge.
The goal should not be to "save regular payroll positions" but to drive business performance. If the Expat is driving key decisions, keep them on. Even if it means cutting 2-3 locals.
This is a business, not a charity.
