2 Weeks Notice Question

For those that gave 2 weeks notice before the last day:

Did company let you stay around for 2 weeks?

If they asked you to leave early, did they still pay for the full 2 weeks?

If going to a direct competitor, HR might ask that you be walked out of the building immediately. I had this happen when a direct report gave 2 weeks notice.

If you need the money for two weeks, give them the two weeks notice; if not, just leave. Show them the same professionalism that that showed to you.

Well most managers will let you go as a favor. Paid. Some need help so bad they ask you to stay for as much time as they can afford
others make you stay out of spite.

Some US states including Texas are "Right to Work" states, therefore, no notice is necessary. Pick the date you want to get paid through and plan to provide your notice and leave. 2 weeks is a customary courtesy, not a requirement. If they ask you to stay, some have asked for up to a month leave, they will pay up through the date they terminate you and pay out any unused vacation time. PTO is not paid out.

Because no one knows how to read the guidelines anymore, you don’t see anyone get walked out. The guidelines say that if going to a competitor, on a highly niche team, or if concern of security or stealing of data exists then they can be walked out and paid in lieu for those remaining days. Don’t confuse this pay in lieu with vacation payout (the form says vacation pay in lieu).

I have to agree with the majority here, I haven’t seen anyone walked out for some time now. I have seen it in the past but not in the last 3-4 years maybe?

I haven't seen anyone walked out recently. I think each manager just wants people to leave on good terms to make it easier on themselves also.

I put my notice in and they actually had me work out my full two weeks. I was going to a direct competitor and they should have walked me out. They are desperate for help with attrition levels so high.

When I left I put in 2 weeks as a courtesy, but it's not required. Haven't seen anyone actually walked out in a few years unless they went to another major.

Never provide notice. It does nothing for you unless you plan to return at some point.

Have all your references and admin stuff squared away then send a short resignation to your boss and their boss via email.

I stayed the full 2 weeks, left on good terms, helped my boss and team up until the last day, they took me out to lunch. Nobody asked me to do anything extra or unreasonable.
