Thread regarding Ford layoffs

This was a scary time tbh, not sure how I will be able to feel secure

This was my first time going through something like this ( even though I am thankful I wasn't affected) and I don't know how I will be able to have any real focus on the work I am doing here.

Im sure most are like me and probably looking for an exit plan as soon as possible or some sort of back up. Living life like this isn't a great feeling.

That’s why you work to live and not live to work. No matter where you go layoffs typically happen. Just keep relevant on your skill set and keep notes for your resume. Ford is no longer a lifetime employer because none of their competitors are either.

"There are couple of folks I talked to who feel they are on very high visibility projects and can never be affected. There is no such thing."
This is so true. We're on a high visibility project and we just lost our boss. He was moved to a different role, and we're told to build faster and better. Still without any direction and a circle that just keeps spinning. None of us feel safe or secure in our roles and no one took the time to explain to us what was happening. It's a disaster

I think this is all so sad as I was so proud to work for Ford - 30+ years later and look at the company today - lack of leadership and management that are just coasting -
Result = a company bleeding talent and trying to catch up with electric technology that was its idea in 1905 !
Hydrogen Ford , cmon look interested in leading the way again - respect your teams and STOP tick boxing - we cared once we could do it again if you listened!

Yeah I agree, I was lied to about what I would be working on.

I took this job out of desperation and I realize I made a huge mistake seeing how things are here now. I haven't met one person who I was inspired by or is good technically.

I don't aspire or hope to be even promoted, I am just trying to stay and collect as many paychecks before I leave ( hopefully on my own accord)

If the company doesn't care about you why should you. They lie all the time. Career development is a joke here. Nothing wrong in having a good backup Job and leave when it is appropriate. Don't just sit and wait for next round of layoffs worrying about it. You be the decision maker not Ford.

So everyone should consider looking outside? seems like a matter of time before we eventually get axed.

There are couple of folks I talked to who feel they are on very high visibility projects and can never be affected. There is no such thing. They can easily be out next time. There is no guarantee for any one irrespective of their performance. This company is bleeding and prospects don't look good.

You grow stronger…just know that you are like the copy machine. When they don’t need you, you’re out! Have other irons in the fire just in case.

I’ve been at the company for 6 years and have gone through layoffs FAR more often than my buddies in the aviation industry. Morale at the company now is in the toilet and a lot of my younger friends are now looking at leaving ford and going elsewhere. I used to be a big Ford guy, not anymore. The way they handled these last few layoffs has been awful with no rhyme or reason to why certain people got let go.

Theres a difference between learning and reading stuff on your own vs working with people who inspire you and you can learn from as well.

AWS, kubernetes devops sh-t and I'm in the mobile space.

You're growth is on you not your co-workers

Yeah I am already expecting to lose my job the next time. I don't have much faith tbh, this was a horrible experience to go through, I don't know the company will survive and actually grow long term.

I made a mistake joining and haven't really grown much tbh. Most people ive worked with are utterly mediocre and I haven't learned much

If you survived this time no one can guarantee you will next time. This uncertainty will continue all the time and you will lose your health. Get out and save yourself. You will be very happy in the long run.
