I am beginning to lose any remaining hope I had that EM can be turned around. Morale is so bad. Just wait until after ranking and people who are used to being told they are outstanding or excellent are now told they are very good or good and very good and good are now needs improvement. That’s really going to be a morale booster!

I’ve been applying elsewhere just haven’t found the right opportunity. I fear you are right and leaving is the only sensible choice. Management has made their strategy clear. Things won’t change until Darren leaves.
Question is what does it really mean. Can we survive as employees and for how long?
looks like you have two options:
- Leave
- Stay and Play by the rules that are clearly defined - they're not getting rid of stack ranking, they're likely going to have NSI as a thing going forward, you're going to be expected to be in the office, you're going to be expected to "take safety seriously", and to advance you're going to play politics (honestly this is true at all companies).
As @wsr+1aPDRAEn said, take ownership of your own circumstances
I wish people would stop focusing on others and playing "what about", and focus on themselves. Not in a selfish way, but realize we do control our own careers, not visa-versa. If you see toxic behaviors embedded in the organization, then decide what to do about it. My choice was to leave early last year and I have not looked back.
Welcome! You’re about a year late to the party, but better late than never.
Just wait until folks discover their refusal to return to campus prior to May 17 may impact their ranking. Like it or not that will play a factor.
