Confucius says, "The more $hit the greener the grass gets!"

Looks/sounds familiar?

What's your point in regards to ExxonMobil? Other companies do layoff and ExxonMobil still sucks. You literally saw the article and thought to post it on the layoff site?

"Grass is not always greener on the other side"

Why yes, it can be yellow if it's dead but a little TLC can make it green again. EM keeps the s- yellow, unless it's campus grass:).

Don’t forget! Company Plan (for most of EM companies) is that 9% attrition takes place in our high cost countries.

So, unlike a 1-time 13% layoff… we are quietly making things so terrible that 9% quit a year.

Tell me which grass is greener…

@wah+1jCSGJtG yes! I can attest to how sh---y XOM severance was. ~ 18 wks. for 15 years of service, contributed COBRA for 3 months, pension payout, a mailed laptop return box that belong to some other employee, and a nice letter in mail congratulating me for my retirement with the company (though I was no where close to retirement). TG - All this shows a sheer incompetence on your part and your remaining Human Remains organization and yet you continue to pocket the amount of money you are. Shameful!.

@wah+1jCSGJtG yup! XOM mgmt. continues to tell and want employees to believe that it is greatest place to work earn with competitive pay. After all this if the employees continue to believe and still want to stay then it is on them. The choice exist. Continue slavery for false sense of long term / perceived secure employment and uncompetitive pay under incompetent mgmt. Or simply say enough is enough, collect your respect and dignity and take it somewhere where it is respected.

@wqx+1jCSGJtG exactly this. At least, MZ @ Meta had ba--s to own up the decision and then provide what appears to be a decent severance to those affected, unlike XOM. Sh-t, even Shell, bp, Chevron, Lyondell had provide better severance than XOM. So don't even compare anyone with XOM because it is the shittiest and will remain as such and DW is the coward that doesn't own up to anything, always complains about getting underpaid while cutting off employees benefits. The most fake and cunning CEO award must go to him.

@OP+1jCSGJtG, you can NOT continue to ignore to water your grass, provide it a fertilizer, and care for it to continue to stay green an healthy and then expect to get away by saying "Grass Is Not Greener On the Other Side". First show some ba--s and take responsibility for maintaining health for your grass then do the comparisons. Tone deaf organization and its so called unless k drinkers.

Minimal people from EM went to big tech. Nice try though.

If this is what helps you tell yourself it’s ok to stay in the toxic cesspool, then you do you.

@OP I’m pretty sure that very few people from Exxon went over to Meta or any other tech company.

Most of the Meta they let go were those with “soft skills” and middle-management types. They’re still hiring for ML/data engineers, developers, etc. Since the typical Exxon/O&G demographic doesn’t have those skills, you don’t really need your little grey-heads about it.

Since so many of you have a hard-on for Elon Musk, try applying to one of his companies. Let us know how it works out.

Well, I would bet the difference is the CEO didn’t send an email out announcing there will be no layoffs while knowing he will be forcing retirements and passing out undeserved PIPs a couple of months later.

That was a di-k move from DW in 2020 and caused a tremendous amount of distrust in an already difficult situation. I bet most of those screwed over by EM would have preferred being told they are being laid off instead of being led to believe they were incompetent employees.

It’s common knowledge the so called PIPs were really layoffs passed out not based on performance but by supervisor’s choice. My supervisor was told to get rid of 10 people. He was given a list of 10 names as suggestions, but he could pick any 10 he chose. He was so sickened by the situation he was put into, he quit shortly thereafter.

Many people are still pi---d at how poorly that whole situation was handled. We all knew tunes were tough and layoffs may happen, so that email gave everyone a false sense of security. Nope. They chose to play with people and tell them they sucked. That caused tremendous damage to those who were screwed over as well as to all those that remained.

EM has no idea how much these id--tic choices will adversely affect the company for years to come.

My neighbor in tech who is in being laid off is not shedding tears. Respect and honest conversations. They are giving her a nice severance package to boot.

My friend at P66 said company is giving extremely nice severance. No worries for him.

The grass is greener on the other side.

Meta severance: 4 months plus 2 weeks for each year of service.
XOM severance: what?

The key observation here is that tech announces their layoff plans which often come with severance

It’s not necessarily about layoffs, it’s the toxic culture and gas lighting at XOM that’s the problem. You’ve missed the point.

All of big tech is feeling the pinch now. All those that were under the microscope here in 2020 get to go through it again
