Ex-Cisco here. I come here a couple of times per year to enjoy the bullets I have dodged since leaving the company. I was sick with the “strategy“, the brainwash, the non-existent change, the nepotism, and the bigotry in so many areas (mental health as a prime example).
I remember about a year ago when ex-colleagues boasted on Linkedin about the “new cisco.com”, which turned out to be a cheap rip-off from Apple’s concept to scroll through the whole one-pager with no clicks. Although it looked and worked cr-ppy, it must have been expensive.
Now they have completely AI-washed their homepage, but it’s super shallow. All the scroll frenzy is gone, it’s very simple now (not the good simple, it’s the cheap simple). You can’t really dig into solutions or strategy, you’ll find announcement first, on an AI investment fund and on an AI report. Deeper on the page, they are driving you to an “AI readiness assessment”, again no substance here. And of course, no customer testimonials.
Within Cisco, the excuse for “again no customer testimonial” was: we’re too strategic. Our customers don’t want their competition to know what we can do (as if Cisco would not try and push their gear to everyone). I think they’re just lazy and/or customers don’t want to be associated with Cisco. That’s the state of AI at Cisco, folks!

Cisco has no fu--ing clue about AI other than lots of PPT and buzzwords. They used to get away with this BS but no longer, the market has wised up.
Does Cisco make a RoCE (RDMA over converged Ethernet) product? Or did they lay off the team working on that a few LR's ago?
I did not get that deep into details, I just wanted to convince myself that this wave or trend is worth jumping on and that there is something for us the ICs to use or work on.
I failed.

@wly+1udFfEsC and yet you seem to care
the scrolling is just a distraction topic
the truth is that for Cisco AI is more on the get/give them the vibe and slides (generic) and buzz words in meetings.
It has reached the general hysteria level, everybody frantically reads about it and takes internal trainings but nothing else is happening.
Just an enormous marketing distraction. If we missed the boat or not it is hard to say, that is a boat that does not stop in the Cisco port. It is just passing by. Based on the traces of initiatives that I have been able to detect we are working on better Ethernet switches to support AI network requirements. I had zero interest to see what we are doing in the compute segment of the market so there could be some things being done. Another area of interest is AI Telemetry and Network analytics. There are some attempts to use AI to detect configuration issues and who know what other obscure use cases, but nothing ground breaking, to show that we are indeed a leader
The days of Cisco pioneering technologies are gone
The org has become too chaotic and cost oriented to facilitate paying high earners and skilled people for R&D
The author of this post is showing clearly that Cisco does not care about R&D anymore https://millionsunn.com/stompn-holler/f/the-system-cisco and it is normal. On the other side this is expected as per a certain theory that states that the bigger the company the higher the internal costs and the bureaucracy and that makes any internal R&D initiative inefficient. Hence the spinnoff solution but even with that it is not happening as far as we can see. It is even easier and less riskier to become cynical and buy startups, get the IP and get rid of people who worked on that.
So, going forward this is what Cisco is going to continue to look like.
Not sure Microsoft is freaking doing it because they are doing it well. I continue to be amazed how they avoided stagnation. Cloud came right in time for them. And then AI.
what are you even talking about?! the scrolling on the webpage su-ks so they must have
no AI strategy!?!? you don't even work here anymore....get a life and move on.
