Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

If the majority of impacted engineers are U.S. citizens and permanent residents, while H1B employees are retained and even promoted

If the majority of impacted engineers are U.S. citizens and permanent residents, while H1B employees are retained and even promoted, doesn’t that look like discrimination? the kind of story that would catch the attention of the news and even the White House?

I went into this hoping there might finally be an investigation into the way H1B visas are being handled in engineering, especially in the central and North east regions. What I found instead was something that feels like a scandal waiting to break.

The new director and his little circle in Central are frankly a laughing stock. To give you an example, one of them had a discrimination case on record against an African American colleague. That’s in writing with HR. Rather than facing any consequences, he’s still there, promoted no less, and the company kept sponsoring his visa. It’s outrageous. If that doesn’t tell you where the priorities lie, nothing will.

In places like New York and the North East, the situation is even worse. The culture on calls with some of these H1B lads is toxic. It’s chest beating, ego driven nonsense, and at times the language is downright abusive. It’s meant to intimidate, to belittle, and they get away with it because leadership either turns a blind eye or is complicit.

This is where I have to say enough is enough. It’s time for proper oversight { DHS, USCIS, ICE } someone needs to step in and sort this out. This isn’t about being anti immigrant; it’s about fairness and protecting jobs for qualified Americans who are being cast aside.

Middle management, too, needs to wake up. Stop being puppets for the lobbyists and the corrupt backroom deals. When redundancies come, and when job postings are quietly written for visa renewals, it’s obvious what’s going on. HR will trot out the same line: “we opened the position, but unfortunately couldn’t find any qualified US citizens or permanent residents.” Rubbish. Everyone can see it’s a charade.

The reality is painful: hardworking, capable Americans are sidelined so the company can keep its visa books tidy. Families go hungry while these games are played out. This isn’t just poor practice, it’s corrosive. It’s eroding trust in leadership, and it’s poisoning the culture of the company from the inside out.

Not all Americans are same and some of us realize the importance of immigration in keeping country’s economy and world standing. Let’s see how maintenance cost of everything goes up and with immigrants targeted and steep tariffs. Folks at bottom will have harder time but does anyone care anymore

I gotta say, I’m real impressed with this thread. I’m right there with the author and most of y’all’s comments. One more thing I’d throw in, these folks will take your work and ideas, slap their name on it, and act like it’s theirs. What’s even funnier, and frustrating too, is when they circle back later and pitch your own idea to you, swearin’ up and down they came up with it first.

I’ve been burned plenty of times, but it just felt silly to fight ‘em on it or even run to leadership sayin’ it was mine. Honestly, it’s pathetic. So I just quit sharin’ my thoughts with them altogether and work around ‘em like they don’t even exist. They stay in this constant “gotta prove myself” mode, and all that really shows is how little competence they’ve got.

@ha India is a sh-t hole country. Over populated, polluted beyond belief and a majority of its citizens uneducated. So many Indians leave because there are no opportunities outside of answering phones on a call center.

America could roll over India in a heart beat if it didn’t mean losing bargain basement employees.

You don’t like the citizens of this country go somewhere else and see if it’s better. Guarantee where ever you would go , it wouldn’t be the toilet bowl country of India.

@jt People have to get the idea out of their heads that there is some kind of utopia that can be achieved. Having the decision making authority outside of Germany and closer to where the employees and customers actually live would be a vast improvement.

First of all some of them visa folks don’t know proper English and they don’t even prepare coffee or get donuts to office. I am not complaining but it would be a nice gesture. It would be better if they acknowledge someone who works twice as much and is 10 times more productive

Yes, it is obvious discrimination. Now how do you get the DT motherf----rS out of the company? That is where you should focus all of your efforts. If you can’t do that, nothing is going to change and it is probably going to get worse.

In my time at the company before I left a couple of years back Regional engineering team, I often encountered IndIs who engaged in gossip, rumor spreading, and finger pointing. It created a toxic environment where accountability was lacking and reputations were damaged unfairly. I did work with a few individuals who were collaborative and supportive, but overall, many interactions felt undermining and self serving. What frustrated me most was how quickly trust could be broken because of that, even within your team and management.
They would present themselves as friendly and supportive, then act against your interests when you let your guard down. My advice is to be cautious and vigilant in navigating such dynamics, don’t believe everything they tell you about others, be fair and draw your own judgement and conclusions about people, don’t let the gang influence your decisions. And if an indi
is reading this thread, be aware that we know how you roll -ICU, take your deception and cunning somewhere else.

You’re just jealous because you aren’t smart as Indians. Americans are considered to be the stupidest people across Europe and other countries. You wouldn’t know because you hardly step outside the US. Half of Americans don’t even have a passport. They don’t understand how the world operates.

doesn't mmatter what the ones do from india. they have no impact on revenue or sales. the contract company wants to control the work and make it up, even if it has no value. However, the work won't add sales revenue. Only adds expense. Just don't care about it. It will solve itself by reducing profit and increasing layoffs. just do nothing at all.

Any guesses on how many more years until Indians begin complaining that Latin Americans (LAs) are taking their jobs for less cost and because many LAs work in the same time zones as many North American companies? My guess: 3 to 5 years years from now.

The H1B system is legalized slavery. The H1B worker is told do your job or I will remove you from the United States and send you back home. So groups of them live in apartments together To minimize cost and enable them to send all their money back home. Meanwhile US citizens can't get a job.

That's because our gov't works in the interest of big tech. You see, those big techs are the ones holding up the markets. You may not agree, but this is the reality. It's like, you whip my bottom and I will wipe yours. Us little guys fall for all the promises that a presidential candidate make and once he's in the white house, those that voted for him are forgotten. He only works for the rich and self interest. Another words, there is no use complaining cause it's a money making business for the rich who control the money flow as well as have the ears of the powerful. This is the ART OF THE DEAL! Make the rich even richer, so they can take that money to their grave.

Not just FTEs, bro, look at AMDOCS, E//, and Nokia… it’s gotten ridiculous with the majority of their workforce that supports TMO is H1B and overseas staff . This feels like modern-day exploitation. I don’t have anything against other nationalities, but it’s time to prioritize Americans first, and when there’s a genuine shortage, bring in temporary help until the gap is filled. I sympathize with you and fully agree with your point, start by getting rid of H1Bs and America should stand for Americans, regardless of race, religion, country of origin, or s-xual orientation.
