Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

What do you dislike the most about this management?

I worked in several companies in the industry. To be fair, the management is more or less equally bad everywhere. There are some exceptions, but managers generally do not want help, they have their favorites and do nothing to motivate employees to do a good job.

@1hkj - they should have taken a “rip off the band aid” from the start and handled the situation as a mass layoff, instead of all of the lies and deceit.

However, the flaw in your plan is that none (or at least very little) of this has had anything to do with “low performance”. The company has downsized through a misuse of the ranking system and the NSI-PIP process.

We all know by now that various parts of the company have been given targets for how many people they have to lose.

Managers and supervisors have abuse the process by leveraging it against people they think will be easy to move - such as those who are R.E., those who are clearly unhappy in their role, those that have been undervalued for years, or those they just don’t like.

There may have been some who really were low performers, but don’t kid yourself that everyone fell into that category. If you’re going to suggest that the company lays off a lot of people in one go, they’re going to make the same mistakes again.

@vym Explain how and why you’re any different.

You work for ExxonMobil. It’s not exactly an altruistic institution. Explain how you can collect a check from them and still take the moral high-ground here.

What I dislike most is that instead of doing an Elon Musk style hard reset, they’ve chosen take the longest, most costly, and inefficient path to normalizing the workforce possible via the PIP. For all of their bravado, they seem genuinely afraid of being sued. Not sure why.

@Management: I know for a fact that you scroll these threads. Grow a pair and right-size the workforce in one fell swoop. Hire senior management from outside if you have to, but please just get it over with. Yes, it will be disruptive. Yes, it will be painful, but it will also be effective. Announce a global WFR and kick all of the low-performers/RIPs off the payroll once and for all. Don’t wait for a recession because you’re probably not getting one.

Nope.

There are companies where managers genuinely care about their team, and they are punished if they don't.

In xom managers only care about themselves and they d3f3cat3 in their reports.

Soulless, clueless, immoral, self serving, dishonest, corrupt, narcissistic, evil folks that care about one thing and that’s themselves.
