Too many managers leaving voluntarily

This is especially true for the last two months. This makes me feel uneasy, to say the least. I wonder if they know something we don't. Broadcom takeover is so close now that I'm thinking maybe there's already a list of names circulating on who's staying and who's a goner.

"That wasn't voluntary. Raghu announced at a public meeting that there could only be one CFO, and Broadcom wanted their person."

We must have missed that epic announcement. So, following that model of Broadcom gets what they want, should we anticipate most VMW exec leaders are also unwanted?

1st Bob: What you do at Initech is you take the specifications from the customer and bring them down to the software engineers?
Tom: Yes, yes that's right.
2nd Bob: Well then I just have to ask why can't the customers take them directly to the software people?
Tom: Well, I'll tell you why... because... engineers are not good at dealing with customers...
1st Bob: So you physically take the specs from the customer?
Tom: Well... No. My secretary does that... or they're faxed.
2nd Bob: So then you must physically bring them to the software people?
Tom: Well... No. ah sometimes.
1st Bob: What would you say you do here?
Tom: Look I already told you, I deal with the @#$% customers so the engineers don't have to. I have people skills! I am good at dealing with people, can't you understand that? WHAT THE HE-L IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!

@1xcs+1nAyNO7B That's the ideal person to remove from the org. Get the people that making decisions directly connected to the smart people actually doing the work, cut out the redundancies and make everything better in the process.

I manage a team of four and I'm stressing

Rightfully so, you need more reports to have a chance at remaining at Broadcom in a manager role.

I manage a team of four and I'm stressing. I can justify my team and its size. Very narrow, but mission-critical focus. However, the Bobs only care about the number of reports.
I'm expecting either more people added to my team, and our mission to be watered down, or me laid off and my team to be moved to water down someone else's mission.

The day they announced that the CFO was leaving for a lateral job offer at a smaller company, we knew that this was just the start of the voluntary exodus leading up to September 2023

That wasn't voluntary. Raghu announced at a public meeting that there could only be one CFO, and Broadcom wanted their person.

My director is doing the same, forwarding emails from Sr directors and VP.

My director is the most id--t person I have come across. All he has to do is forward emails of VP or Sr, Director to us. Or just ask status. Thats it. I hope Broadcom fire him several times.

Too many Sr.Directors and Directors. Time to fire them and keep real contributors.

Directors are also product, program, and project managers in roles as individual contributors.

And that is why they aren’t directors by any normal definition of the role and should be fired.

This is why VMware is screwed and a target for acquisition.

TOO MUCH FAT.

Hock will put an end to the role of minister without portfolio position, which is RAMPANT at VMware.

The situation in GS is deteriorating. There has been a hiring freeze for months, and no positions are being filled to reduce the high headcount worldwide. Additionally, there have been frequent changes, including an increase in micromanagement.

Directors are also product, program, and project managers in roles as individual contributors. They are P6 pay grade, and they are not manager track, and they won't have reports.

I've just resigned, and our Director has only two employees remaining. He's very anxious about what happens to him after Broadcom. While I have sympathy for his situation, staying at VMW for more than a decade seems to have created the stress and worry.

Other than the VPs. I have not noticed many managers, sr managers or directors leaving.
If anything we are being told attrition in EMEA is very low, 5%.

The first thing that has been cut in all of the recent Broadcom acquisitions is management. This is no secret to most managers.

@vyl+1nAyNO7B zero reports?!? Yikes. That is something that is not allowed to exist in BC.

3 reports … there are managers with ZERO reports.

I guess those managers have time to focus on the main thing!

Great way to run a company Magoo!

It is prudent for managers to leave. Hock likes management structures very flat and doesn't buy into the manager with only 3 reports.

Broadcom respects ICs.
Managers would be cut before ICs.
Speaking as a manager, I know that I'm not 100% safe. Even if I believe I am.
