Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

In five years, nothing has changed

When I joined about five years ago, I didn't feel like I was being treated as a valued asset but I figured that was normal for somebody new. I expected things would change as I gained experience within the company and seniority. I was wrong. Things are still the same as on my first day. I don't feel appreciated, respected, or valued as an employee. I've decided I've waited long enough for things to change, now I'm planning to leave next month. In case they wonder why people are leaving in droves, that's my reason.

Never, ever stop looking for the next job. Save like you could lose your job at anytime. Keep your skills current. Keep your network fresh.

Do these things and you will never feel the need to post your blues in this forum.

Amen. I'm right there with you, even after about 8 years of working my a-s off to excel in the various jobs I've held. It's never been enough to be technically competent and mentor my teammates and close peers. Because I'm not spending time networking with the right people (i.e., the people who will be involved in my ranking), and artificially selling myself, I've never felt the kind of appreciation, respect, or value that I feel every hard-working employee should feel.
