GM to import EV batteries from China's CATL

Didn't we have our own battery plant?

Does this mean the batteries we made were garbage?

Nobody wants a bolt! Let alone the 25% tart if it will receive. Why buy a bolt when the equinox is 100% better and better looking?

There aren't enough EVs to make a difference in power demand.

It's all those data centers to support AI.

New Jersey’s electric bills tripled this summer... What we don't need is more EVs slurping power off the grid unless we want to see more of this.

One article is from November, 2024.

That was last year, in case that's confusing.

@pv 2025 and you're lazily pasting random links from 2021. Go touch grass, dork.

@jr
It's for the Bolt only to keep the cost down.
It has nothing to do with quality.
We still design and build our own batteries for all of our other EVs.
You sound bitter so I understand the need to be negative and hyperbolic but it's sad.

@h7 so why are we buying Chinese batteries now?

Weren't the Bolts recalled for battery fires?

People were warned not to park in their garages so they didn't burn down their houses.

@f0
I work in the EE (not the OP). There are so few people that we all know each other and have been working with each other (in most cases) for decades. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of people posting here have no idea about EE.
I just ignore comments like, "Does this mean the batteries we made were garbage?"
If they were garbage, you would hear about it. But you don't.
The EVs aren't selling as well as many would have hoped but there are tens of thousands of them out there in the wild. The only complaint I have ever heard was that charging a Hummer EV conventionally takes something like 24 hours. Is that a legit complaint IDK. But our products are very safe, and very reliable. We scrutinize the $*$%()# out of our designs. Personally, I find the idea of charging a car in my driveway for many hours tedious and unattractive but if I did buy an electric Blazer, Equinox, Bolt - I would be confident it's a great car and probably fun to drive with all of the bells and whistles. People need to get over themselves and their negativity.

@OP Do you know enough about battery technology or electrical engineering to even have this conversation?
