Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

What is your plan if you’re laid off?

I constantly feel like I'm not prepared enough even though I think I did everything I could do in this situation.

I've had some interest from other financial services companies who've messaged me on linkedin, but when I look at those companies' layoff sites -- it's the same commentary. I plan to take a couple of courses in October to brush up on old skills (laid off or not) and then look for a position outside of financial services with the goal of being self-employed in a couple of years. I have a plan that will allow me to move and live where I want - not dictated by where I'm employed.

Use my entire severance to buy all in on 20 year US Treasuries. Lock in at 4.35%, just like Charles Schwab...........

@vig+1otnFPhf I'm going to be REALLY sad. I can (and will) find another job, but I want the severance.

The moment they announced RTO I hit the market. I knew layoffs were around the corner.

I had a few interviews and landed a spot laying 25% more than I’m at now. Requires extensive background checks.

I’m hoping I can extend the start to early October to be here for the rumored 9/18
Sh-t show

If I am layed off I am not leaving my house for two weeks. I plan on using a majority of my severance / waiting period to pay my mortgage / car for the next 3-4 months. Saving the rest.

Treating myself to a "sabbatical" with some of the severance and live off the rest + savings while applying to new jobs. The break would be good for me, it's been a long few months

I have a lot of money saved up and after crunching the numbers I think I can safely "retire" early so I think I will give it a shot... That said, I'll likely reactivate my developer accounts and write some mobile apps again, do some other things I've always wanted to do (e.g. freelance voiceover work). Anything I make will be icing on the cake, so why not?

It's time to experience life, find some joy again, and forget about this rigged rat race and the mo--ns running it.

Great question, OP.

When the layoffs were announced, I sat down and wrote down a list of things I want to do if I get laid off. That includes some home and personal projects, as well as "career reboot" jobs, in case I decided I want to move out of the financial services industry. I'm not going to stress, I'm going to enjoy the break from work.

Ride the severance + unemployment as long as possible while focusing full-time effort on building an online business
