Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Will you walk away?

How many people are planning to walk away as soon as they're put on a PIP instead of waiting to be fired? I think a good part of the management's plan relies on people choosing to walk away believing that their fate has already been decided. I plan to stay until the last day possible, whatever the outcome might be.

I was hoping I would get NSI’d this year to begin my job search in earnest. Of course I didn’t and now I can’t even find time to interview anywhere. How do you all do it ? Vacation, “sick days”, any tips ?

Cheers!

I’m walking away. I too got NSI this cycle. I’m 59, taking the PIL and will officially retire just before the end of PIL. I was planning to retire at 60 anyway. This new ranking system is truly horrible. I have also heard that PIP is horrendous and is the equivalent of bringing peace to the Middle East in 90 days. Good luck to everyone in this situation.

It depends on financial situations. If I am 56 and pPIPed I would do the pip. If I am 57 or older I would leave. You will lose some money by leaving before 60. You will lose your mind if you stay and go through the pip. We all know they pick people that are good performers to pip and let favorites that don't work stay.

100% agree with @vaf. I was PIL in 2020 and it was the best thing that could have happened. Looking for a job is a full time job. Also, I leveraged Right Management a lot and am now working at a great company thanks to their guidance and tools. The PIP isn’t worth it. I’ve seen the rules that you have to follow. It’s ridiculous and you will always have that NSI stigma attached to you.

Best luck to you! There is so much happiness outside of xom.

Regardless of whatever management’s plan is (seems like it’s the opposite of what you said since they’re reaaaallllly highlighting the 90% PIP pass rate) please do what’s best for yourself. I got NSI’d and wanted to maximize the amount of time I could spend on the job search so I took the PIL. So for the next 3 months will be making the job search my full time job while still being “employed” by Exxon under the PIL. I reached out to several people who had taken the PIP and it is NOT worth your mental health - especially at a company where your reputation is now essentially tarnished anyways - good luck though!
