Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Types of jobs being eliminated:

If you are part of the “data and subscription” team, get your resume updated…

From Bloomberg: At Twitter, the diversity, equity and inclusion team is down to just two people from 30, one former employee said. A DEI worker who was let go from a popular ride-share company said their job search has stalled as other technology companies assess their finances. And just before getting the ax at separate tech giants this fall, two DEI specialists said leadership had stopped setting longterm goals for their departments entirely.

The layoffs sweeping the technology industry are gutting diversity and inclusion departments, threatening company pledges to boost underrepresented groups in their ranks and leadership.

Listings for DEI roles were down 19% last year - a bigger decline than legal or general human resources jobs saw, according to findings from Textio, which helps companies create unbiased job ads.

Only software engineering and data science jobs saw larger declines, at 24% and 27%, respectively.

@von. No, not everyone has the aptitude and the willingness to put in the effort to acquire STEM skills. But as soon as the word is out that a particular STEM branch has plentiful jobs and pays well, those with aptitude will gravitate to those majors, and schools will expand their course offerings. Once a company has established its processes, they don't need a large team of high priced, experienced, technical workers and cut back. That is happening at Google. It will happen in Model E.

Yes I agree, medicine also isn't hard. Nor is mathematics or really any STEM discipline. Literally anyone can be a doctor or an engineer, that's why everyone should always be afraid of being fired.

It is nothing new. Skillsets marked as in demand quickly get over saturated as schools and students react. Model E engineers will be dime a dozen before long. There is nothing special about software and data skills. Battery charging and electric motors aren't that complicated either. No one should be that comfortable. Good luck to all.

The layoffs occuring in "Big Tech" companies are a re-balancing after over-hiring during the pandemic due to low interest rates. Considering new grad software engineering positions at these companies can start at a base compensation of $120k+, it would make sense to cut back in the current economic climate.

But I don't understand what OP is trying to infer with this post. Tech positions are doomed everywhere?

Again, no one is safe. The next cut is going to be huge. They aren't hiring in Mexico and Brazil as a way of keeping jobs in Dearborn!

This is their RTO plan. Get the staff in SE Michigan down to a number that their current facilities can support. You can dismiss this but I know this for a fact.

It's just a mess at Ford. Farley eliminates thousands of people, most were directly involved in the dev and engineering of vehicles and gets upset when no one gives him positive feedback at our Townhalls. We are told we're once again transforming to not only a tech based data/ subscr/ service company but we're also finally transitioning to EVs ( which we've heard before ( listen to the keynote at 2013 NAIAS ). Farley never had the confidence or trust from the bulk of employees or the investor community, hiring DF, a professional job hopper, outsourcing complex engineering as well as connectivity tech essential for the so-called data services gives us absolutely no competitive advantages. We bring in rejects from HP, Tesla, Disney, Renault who have produced nothing other than ' how might we ' decks. Product dev and almost all the programs are off timing, without any experienced ' talent ' to get them back on course. Anyone see the PXXX, WTF! Who is making decisions? And why arent leaders held accountable? And people wonder why there is so much anger and frustration. Look into the numbers, Ford is bleeding insane amounts of money without a clear roadmap to restore profitability. Everyone at Credit is nervous as well as Pro, TC has developed a nervous twitch as have JL and JB. FLV has wasted billions and hides. Our suppliers are laughing to the bank as they also bleed the company and poor Farley is upset for being criticized. Going to be a very nasty year ahead, PEPs are coming to NA and massive headcount reduction in EU.

What does the snippet of the article you posted about DEI employees at Twitter have to do with data and subscriptions?

They must have been let go because of climate change.
