Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Could be layoffs...could be reorg..

Layoffs and reorg have usually gone hand in hand at Schwab so I am not sure why everyone thinks because there is a meeting that it just means layoffs. Walt has already said there is going to be reorg, so you might be laid off, or maybe just regor'd into another group. Your manager/PL/MD would have to have the directional meeting either way. Have seen this at Schwab multiple times....

Which would mean the weekend meetings are not just about layoffs.

@njq+1pkcTxxn He already has a meeting very very early in the morning (before work for his time). I think he is getting ready for the new role.

Not likely.

That person is probably getting some direct reports to make him/her a PL, so maybe why they were included in the HR meeting.

But as someone said in another post: “ Well, I saw this "Optional: Live HR Support" meeting for a director (IC) in STS who is a lead architect and has no direct reports. Strange!”

Not convinced these optional meetings over the weekend have as much relevance as the private meetings on Wed.

No reorg on Monday per say (the big one comes later). The only re-org tha happens on Monday is moving teams around to report to SOMEONE in the interim because their people leader is now gone or has been demoted er— I mean had a role change.

Lots of good points made in the replies here. Also, they are not going to do a major reorg until the bulk of the layoffs are complete. Re-org is phase 2. Layoffs need to be done first so they can start re-aligning teams.

@usy+1pkcTxxn Unless I got a different meeting the invite is titled Optional: Live Support for Managers. Guess the title is different for different orgs.

Yes we all know that, but OP is talking about the weekend meetings. They are specifically for managers holding layoff discussions to get support from HR. Reorgs will happen and those discussions are happening separately and probably only at the MD level.

The weekend meetings are for layoffs! The meeting invite literally says that! Stop confusing people!

Re-orgs will be announced only after layoffs are complete. There will be a lot of internal only job postings starting Wed for positions that are being re-aligned. I just hope that those who remain aren't kept in the dark for another 3 months as to whether their position will change or reporting will change.

Not had many HR training meetings over a weekend just for a re-org. And most re-orgs won’t save anywhere near ~$500M unless it’s a sale. God speed to those impacted when it comes.

Oh, you gentle child of Autumn, go back to your cubicle in your Volunteer T-shirt and work, work, work! You are essential to the plan of your most benevolent EC overlords, sip upon that now soggy paper cup of Core Value Kool-Aid.
