So is TIAA doing layoffs and hiring at the same time ?
I see random postings on LinkedIn for financial consultant opportunities but also see comments about hiring freeze ?
Totally confused

Layoffs will continue.. AND T and her crew will continue to spend $$$ at leadership meetings at luxury locations…
and she will hire her personal DJ to spin music …
Hiring and laying off at the same time is not that unusual. I've seen it in other companies, in prior decades, as well. The posted job may not be a good fit for those being laid off, and they can lay off higher-earners, and replace them with lower-paid ones.
Wealth/advisory areas are expanding - other areas being shipped to India. the call center is the hiring pool for the company - and always hiring. they run deficient most of the time.
Is there still no information on when the hiring freeze will be lifted? To my understanding it was March and here we are mid-April.
@uif+1s0KEmqk I am not sure where these claims are coming from, but that was not my experience at all. Received a phone screen and 2 interviews within 2 weeks of applying. THen the hiring freeze was implemented. And I am not an internal person wanting to get promoted. In my opinion, HR did an excellent job and have been very transparent that the hiring freeze is still in place, but it is just a matter of time..
The answer is yes. There are layoffs and the hiring freeze still exists. Job posts may be old or have to be posted externally but are for an internal hire or “promotion”. Note that employees have had to apply for promotions 8 times out of 10 here over the last 20+ years. Others got promoted even with a horrible job on a major project.
There have been many people who left on their own will and their roles have not been posted yet even internally. So whatever is out there is likely stagnant.
HR is very slow and has been here for a very long time, so if you apply you may not even get an initial phone screen from them for a month or more.
Also, they may be resume banking.
I don't know a solid answer to this question, but based on my experience at the large companies, they can still selectively hire for the roles approved before the cutbacks or some really critical roles where they got a special approval to hire. Otherwise, I don't think you will see a lot of full time hiring in the US at the moment. Also, some of these roles may be old and actually closed. Some of these systems are old and redundant.
