Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Just do the bare minimum

“We were all used as stepping stones, to build exceptional products, industry-first tech and leapfrog our competitors,” a product manager affected by GM’s cuts wrote on LinkedIn. “All for what? A pat on the back and ‘good job’.”

Remember this next time you decide to give it your all for this place.

Focus on the 7%.

Ignore the 93% behind Mary's curtain.

Labor is 7 percent of the cost of a new car.

Maybe we can all sing and hold hands as well.

Title: I Ain't Working At All

(Verse 1)
In my cube, I stare all day
At spreadsheets and reports, oh what to say?
My mind is numb, my soul is grey
I'm just going through the motions, every single day

(Chorus)
I ain't working at all
Just pretending to do my part
Collecting a paycheck, that's all I care
I ain't working at all, but I'll be there

(Verse 2)
The coffee flows, the clock ticks slow
I'm stuck in neutral, don't you know?
My passion's died, my fire's low
Just trying to survive, that's all I know

(Chorus)
I ain't working at all
Just pretending to do my part
Collecting a paycheck, that's all I care
I ain't working at all, but I'll be there

(Bridge)
The days blend together, the weeks go by
I'm just marking time, wondering why
Can't someone else do it for me?
I'd love to walk away, but where would I be?

(Chorus)
I ain't working at all
Just pretending to do my part
Collecting a paycheck, that's all I care
I ain't working at all, but I'll be there

(Outro)
So if you need me, don't look for me
In the office, I'm just not there to see
I'll show up late, with a shrug and a sigh
I ain't working at all, just passing by.

This song is inspired by Phil Ochs' classic folk song "I Ain't Marching Anymore," but with lyrics that reflect the frustration of doing the bare minimum at a job. The song's themes include apathy, disengagement, and the search for meaning in a monotonous work environment.

Agreed. Not a strong fan of unions but imo they have their place. Think they played a key roll in the early to mid 1900’s in setting better pay/benefit standards for themselves and others. A recent example is after the UAW contract ratification salary got a bump in 401k match. Coincidental? Maybe but I doubt it. We get the same vacation time also the UAW negotiated.

And as far as car prices, labor is a contributing factor but I don’t think it’s as big a factor as the media makes it out to be.

Imo we need to work together and not fight against one another. No one wins when we fight against one another regarding pay.

Unions are a problem absolutely. But they do good as well.

If their salaries weren’t an issue, they wouldn’t be doing mandatory overtime so I highly doubt their hourly wages are hurting GM.

Unions enable workers to be lazy and keep salary from holding hourly accountable. BUST THE UNIONS!
Why do you think vehicle prices are so high? Let me answer... UNIONS!

Well, the SLT does the bare minimum.

Make a few bad decisions, lay some people off, cash in some stock options, and they're good.

You are a pathetic troll that doesn't even understand the difference between salary and hourly workers in automotive. Go back to the Target layoff page where you belong.

Let's ne honest. You are all union thugs that don't do much anyway. I'd be surprised if you did the bare minimum anyway
