Any updates about next week?

I hope this will be over soon. Either way.

@1fr I don't see a problem with that person's comment. They didn't say anything about refusing to adapt or come in the office. I read it to point out the glaring double standards that exist on a daily basis. If in office is important - maybe everyone should be in office 5 days a week? I know from my experience, I just use Teams to talk to people at work because it is really impossible to know who is in office 5 days, 4 days, 3 days, 2 days, etc. It is just more efficient that way. When I schedule a meeting, I make it a Teams meeting for the same reason. It is just amazing that these are tough times and most of the people on here are being very supportive of each other, but you felt it was OK to come here with negative assumptions of those affected. I know several people affected by this - they were great colleagues. None of them align with your accusations, and they will be missed.

@tj You are correct....except...that my comment was in relation to this post below. I don't wish it on anyway to be replaced by cheap offshore labor. BUT if those remaining like the person below don't want to wake up and smell what's changing before their eyes, then yes...I think they should just be replaced.

"yeah they want us in X days a week depending on which group you are with, but do you think the 80 jobs being offshored to foreign lands that those people will be required to come in? Double standard indeed. Someone had asked about this at a Town Hall. Also, don't expect them to be forced to attend DEI seminars. That is just for us. I never understood how some people get 5 day remote (non-medical) but it is a big deal for the rest of us. And I am not talking out of stay only. I know of plenty of people on teams who get 5 day remote who live not far from the office."

@tv lol. Adapt or die. I don't care what you choose. It's reality.

@sq said like a boomer c-suite tool bag. You're what's wrong with management nowadays.

@sq This is an ignorant comment. The teams being off-shored didn't complain about coming in. The came in as required. Did everything asked of them. They are still losing their jobs because the people they have to train for weeks to kinda do their job can work for 10 percent of the cost. Maryland is a highly taxed jurisdiction, and taxes in the US are high. And after ACA healthcare got more expensive. It is not their fault. I am all for cutting dead-weight, but I doubt that applies to many of the unlucky people selected so far.

@qg why do the same people who complain about being forced back to the office also complain that jobs are being offshored? The moment you insist/prove you can do your job remotely is the moment you convince management it can be done at a fraction of the cost offshore. So…maybe people need to embrace the competitive advantage they have over cheaper foreign workers: being in the office.

@ps When you go into the careers site, at the top, you can see something about "LCA filings". If you look in there you can see paperwork for any roles being considered for H1B or Offshore company. This could give people some idea. It seems like the positions you mentioned could be posted but have a related form. So no idea if those positions are really available to people, or just going through the motions and the job is not going to an American. To your point, yeah they want us in X days a week depending on which group you are with, but do you think the 80 jobs being offshored to foreign lands that those people will be required to come in? Double standard indeed. Someone had asked about this at a Town Hall. Also, don't expect them to be forced to attend DEI seminars. That is just for us. How is it possible that 6 days after mass layoffs, that there are 10 brand new positions open for New Hires?? What a kick in the face?
The brand new building, in downtown Baltimore (with issues all ready); sitting on a toxic waste site. Money poured into Orioles. Blindly laying off 100's of people across the globe. Asking for 4 days a week, in office, when there are Dozens of so called "big wigs" that still live in other states and are Fully Remote (always have been), double standard. Seriously the amount of money wasted on this fancy, over the top technology driven facility is so Not Fiscally Responsible and does not have the Investors At All.

@a7 Yep - and I consider the ride home and my state of mind. I wouldn't cause a scene in the office, but I'd bottom out on the way home. I do not feel human in this. They talk about being DEI and ESG and all of that, yet I feel unhuman. The way this is rolling out - and making people who have given their all to this firm train the people being handed their jobs makes me so sad. They are being punished for living in the United States.

And if HR responds again to call them or ask their boss - we have tried to get clarity on this. So many AMAs and townhalls had people asking these questions. They did not get answers. Just glee at "new partnerships". In one they said "Sorry we don't have time for questions" and ended it 10 mins early. I will agree with whoever that is that is su-ks we have to talk about this here. Start upskilling and sending out resumes, and know that it is not your fault and you are not the only one.

@a2 I don't even want to go into office because of it. My biggest fear of all is having to be escorted out. Everyone watching and wondering why it was me. Some will think I'm probably incompetent, stupid, and lazy. Others will be happy it was me, not them or someone they work with and like. Whole thing feels like it's meant to be as dehumanizing and humiliating as possible. I'd fear my psyche will crack and I won't even be able to drive myself off the parking lot safely.

@OP Hi - I haven't heard anything. Frankly, I have come to terms with the fact that there will be more, maybe not last week, but given people have said these layoffs were to please shareholders on an Aug 1 call, I fully expect them this week. I do expect they will change their tactic - no advance notice of any kind.

When they started talking about "partners" in foreign countries, I already started taking steps to protect my future. Morally, I am not a fan of firing qualified workers in favor of foreigners who do not have the skill set and who need months of training to even try and begin to do their predecessor's jobs. I guess I would be forced to do it to get severance. Once they see the $$$ savings, they will continue to do this through IT and likely accounting. I wish you and everyone best of luck this week and throughout this process. Sad times indeed.
