Thread regarding Ford layoffs

New week, new recall.

Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2023 Ford Bronco models over an issue with the 10-speed automatic transmission.

The defect: in affected vehicles, the transmission park system may have been damaged during assembly, which can prevent the parking pawl from fully engaging and result in a vehicle rollaway.

The hazards: a vehicle rollaway can increase the risk of a crash.

Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this issue.

Components: transmission park system

Affected vehicles: select 2023 Ford Bronco SUVs equipped with the 10-speed automatic transmission produced between February 17th, 2023, and March 30th, 2023.

The fix: dealers will will replace the transmission, free of charge.

I saw this posed in a Bronco board somewhere else and someone pointed out that it is 2 vehicles total. Really a non-story.

the post about the EV's not rolling away is like most rah rah posts about how EV's are going to fix all our problems....based more on religious beliefs about EV's than engineering data on EV's

from an article at drive dot com...

Teslas are a bit different, though, because they don't have traditional parking pawl in their electric drive units. Instead, Teslas rely on the electronic parking brake to clamp down on the back wheels. Like the Rivian, a single press of the park button only prompts the driver to quit doing that, but a hold will engage an emergency stop.

@ojw And the two up votes on your comment. You are incorrect. Most EVs have gearboxes filled with oil. This is how the electric motor transmits torque to the wheels via a gear reduction. Tesla, GM, Rivian, Ford, etc. do this. Do a Google search before you sh-t post.

I sure hope whoever posted their ignorance of the fact that EVs have gearboxes filled with oil doesn't work at Ford as an engineer. Otherwise, that can explain a lot of Ford's issues these days.

Uh, @syd, hey dip$hit, most EVs have a park pawl also. It is because the brake team won't take on the responsibility for roll away safety issues that those lowly Ford Blue drivetrain engineers have been doing for 60+ years now.

It is amazing that an issue with the park system requires a total gearbox replacement. Didn't quite design for serviceability here, now did they?

See that's why we need to go to EV's... they don't have that pesky easy and inexpensive transmission full of hydraulic fluid and stuff that don't lock you in park when it's sposed to lok you in park. EV's are the answer!!!

What was that Vision Statement again? “To become the world's most trusted company…” Yeah I trust them to issue more recalls and pi-s off loyal customers.

Thankfully replacing the transmission is easy and inexpensive. Plus it is a quick fix so the customer won't have to wait long without their vehicle.

I'm being sarcastic.....
