Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

10/17/2024 Beat 🧵

What are your predictions for it? Does Chuck show up this time?

One of the most egregious commenters is still with Cisco in the Duo organization, as is the employee who CR called out regarding the breach comments. Let’s face it, those who are d-mb enough to cause all of the commotion are also usually smart enough to lean on their identity bonafides to avoid getting the axe, and Cisco HR is so constrained by their own political correctness that they fold under pressure.

Regarding chat comments - its a slippery slope. Chuck and Fran openly endorse Social Justice Warriors and force fed us the BLM narrative 4 years ago. While I think people should only be discussing business on these calls the ELT started it first.

I would imagine that if anyone did get fired for saying anything they might have a healthy law suite on their hand given the fact that BLM has been proven to be a non trustworthy organization with false narratives.

So if the company can force feed you that - how would your silly comments be grounds for termination?

Slippery slope.

And all I wanted to hear was about how we're going to not have anymore layoffs. The lack of focus is insane.
The take my energy people included.

@1acy+1v2X1fZt, I didn't pay much attention to the chat section as I was reading the Q&A section, but Fran had to interject and say that the chat comments were inappropriate. Then she later said that people would be hearing from her team.

They've not included the chat transcript (yet) on the replay page, but they included links to the Employee Expressions Guidance page, Inclusive Communities Experience page, Join an Inclusive Community page, and the DEI programs and conferences page, so take that as you will.

I did see some questions in the Q&A section that I'll share. They sort of give you an idea.

Given Cisco's long-standing relationship with the Israeli military and government, is it possible that our technology was used in Israel's attack on civilians in Lebanon and Gaza? How do we know that our technology isn't being used in any human rights violations in the region?
Is it OK to make political statements on these calls. In reference to the first question above there was additional comment made that I found offensive. Can this be addressed so everyone feels included and respected?
It's clear that many employees are feeling scared to speak up about issues with Cisco's dealings that seem to go against our conscious culture. What is your advice to those that want to voice concerns but don't feel like the culture here is a safe space to do so.

I did manage to grab a few comments before all the "no audio" and "echo" comments scrolled them too far up to find.

Dear colleagues, please note that you are in Cisco's official meeting & not in any social media group. So please be mindful before making comments. There are defined ways to raise your concerns that you can check in SharePoint. Please focus on what our leadership is conveying, they take lot of efforts for such meetings.

Surprisingly, that comment didn't come from someone in HR or ELT.

Be mindful of the fact that Cisco terminated employees that were looking to spam the chat with certain political messages. Google Cisco fired anti-blm
come on everyone. whatever your political beliefs, who's right or wrong, we have people on here from most countries in the world. Please can we show that respect to our fellow colleagues and keep your beliefs out of this chat?
If CIsco (sic) continued to support Russia during the invasion of Ukraine, would you. be okay with it? If Cisco supported the genocide of the entire 2SLGBTQIA+ community, would you stay silent? When when Cisco enables and provides services and close partnerships to Israel, who is committing genocide against Palestinians, you want us to stay silent? What would this be called, other than gross discrimination?

That comment got called out by name by Chuck towards the end of the session.

I appreciate your courage and integrity in standing up for this issue. Question for you though - do you think you are pulling people to your side, or increasing the power of your message by continuing to repeat it here? I'm not sure you are, but that's just my perspective.
I'd like to ask when/how can we implement the consequences of violating Cisco's COBC on these company-wide calls? People still haven't learned and ignore warnings from our leadership to practice decorum. How can we take action to show that this behavior is not tolerated? (note, I dont (sic) want anyone to get in trouble, but where do we draw the line???)

If this post doesn't get removed, that should give you a good idea of what was said. I only managed to find a small part of the comments in the later half. Not sure what was said in the first half.

One even accused Cisco of having white supremicists running rampant in the company.

I stopped attending them entirely. There’s nothing to look forward to besides more layoffs, more corporate spin, and the droves of ridiculous comments from the sycophants and the socially inept.

I don’t recognize this company anymore from even just a few years ago.

What kind of comments were said? I missed the meeting.

I for one hope they get fired for that. It's one thing to express disappointment but it's unacceptable to say the things that were said. You can't say anything you want and not expect retaliation. This is not a fairy land. It's corporate business and businesses like Cisco will use anything and everything to fire people with no severance. And this will go on their background checks

@1hzc+1v2X1fZt, Fran said that her team would be contacting people. You know they won’t say who, or how many get fired over their comments, or if it will just be an HR write up to go in their records in case they need to fire them later & don’t want to wait for a LR.

I wouldn’t believe anything I read here about people claiming someone from their team was let go.

I would find it interesting if they post the chat transcript so we can find the comments, see who made them, & see if they’re still in the directory next month, but it won’t happen.

Those worried for next LR were feverishly busy putting thumps up 👍 on non-sense comments hoping to impress leaders watching, as if they have no other real work. Non stop chatter praising ELT and comments made is generally the theme on voting up. This is how low Cisco folks have come down to. Stop this madness.

People that think a company meeting is the equivalent of Twtich chat should be fired when they are clearly violating societal norms

@fga+1v2X1fZt Stop kicking up dust. It's very simple, follow the rules or deal with a consequence. If you don't like the policy, you can leave. CSCO provides too much leeway with their employees IMO, most tech companies would shut noise like this firmly.

@fga+1v2X1fZ Relax, no one is “targeting Muslims”. If they got fired it’s because they said inappropriate things at a company wide event.
