Thread regarding ViaSat Inc. layoffs

There's a lot of toxic behavior on this message board for lots of reasons

As someone who was affected by the layoffs last Nov, it can be a difficult time and someone taxing on your overall well being. There's only a few things that can shake you up in life as much as losing your job, so my heart goes out to anyone affected in the short term and wish you the best in the long term.

Anyone that comes on this site and says morale is high at viasat is highly misinformed. Morale is at an all time low. The leadership is all at sea and essentially reverting to type in order to make themselves feel better and try and tell a positive story to teams. Whilst the share price may be artificially a little low, most predictions are now sub $20 in terms of fair value - which is still more than 50% down on 18 months ago. Viasat has no clear narrative, no solid roadmap and a lack of coherent leadership. Die hard viasatians look to Mark to provide the guiding light, but, as good as he has been this is a new world for satcom not just in terms of tech but also in terms of the scale and investment capability of new entrants like Starlink and Amazon. Viasat needs to find its place in this new world, and this place is NOT the status quo. It needs to evolve, reposition, and communicate in order to be able to come back. A lot of people have left or are leaving - call it what you want (seems layoff is a loaded phrase for some people) - some are voluntary, many are not. But it is not the volume that counts as much as the quality of the people that are going and the gap they leave behind. Some kindness and respect it due for those who have been asked to leave, however, I believe that they will find it a blessing in disguise.

I hated this last 17 months in viasat since you bought inmarsat. My feeling is mainly relief that i dont need to talk to “not invented here” idi@ts from viasat any more who dont know how to make money or serve customers.
No hard feelings, enjoy the rest of your viasat ride.
I will do something more constructive with the money viasat is giving me.

just had a call from People Culture and the waste of space called my “viasat manager”. I dont know how many are getting axed but People Culture are doing nose to tale calls all day again today. Also all the people I know being axed are inmarsat people. I know 12 so far this week and all in GOPS. Thanks J@son and John D goodbye and thanks for zero loyalty.

Excellent words of wisdom OP! And I want to add to this! Don’t listen all the noise from former employees or rival companies that just want to bring the morale down. Viasat didn’t wish for all our parties to be laid off, unfortunately that was the result Viasat had to do it in an effort to reduce costs and to restructure Viasat’s business model. However Viasat still treated them with the respect and dignity they deserve, plus the company knows that they can count on our support in doing the same, so don’t listen to all those Trolls!
Viasat will be back on top once more! No matter what happens, keep getting back up. For every time you get back up, the fall makes you stronger and thrusts you to a new level. Whatever you might be facing. In the end, what matters is how quickly you get back up and take your power back.

What is the better site to get news?

Let’s stick to facts and data, as J@son Sm@th always told his Inmarsat folks.

I only know what I know so I hope others can help list out the total layoffs I don’t know about.

Laid off in the last week:
ISAT sales lead Europe, aviation
ISAT sales lead USA, aviation
ISAT Customer support leader Asia
ISAT Customer support leader Europe
ISAT Customer support Director Europe
ISAT Customer Assurance director, Europe
ISAT maritime service delivery leader Asia
ISAT maritime service delivery leader Europe

Thanks to J@son, J@mmy and J@hn Daly for these non-Layoff “cost-alignment synergy savings”

Did anyone from Viasat get whacked?

To late to complain about that,
This forum is just copy and pasting for a long time now…. Not sure if anyone notice but the last few posts have been copy and paste from a comment of another post.
This is the worst website to find legitimate layoff news

Oh my god, the person who keeps commenting "Don't believe anything you read here - it's complete BS." all over the place, stfu. You had some credibility the first time you posted that message, but now it's obvious you're the real troll. OP is right, getting laid off can be very tough so show some respect.

And anyone who comes to this website to learn about layoffs like I do, I think they're likely real and happening "silently". You can check the number of members decrease in the main slack channel.

Don't believe anything you read here - it's complete BS.

It's just a bunch of disgruntled trolls who got laid off a long time ago and have no idea what's going on in the company now. They are posting nonsense and fiction.

I work with multiple teams in the company, and morale is pretty high. Everyone is hard working and dedicated to their jobs. I check Slack at midnight before bed, and so many people still have a green dot next to their name. I get late night emails from Git from people submitting code late. People are handling on call duties on the weekend. Some are even doing it while on vacation, while on maternity and paternity leave, and I've even seen it from a few people who were supposed to be retired.

I don't know anyone who is worried about layoffs. No one is leaving, and, in fact, the company has started hiring again. Of course that doesn't mean there won't be some low performers or people in business units that are no longer a priority let go here and there. But at many recent all hands, not just with Guru and Mark, but with other leaders too, there is a strong sense of optimism and a feeling that the company is moving in the right direction. It's not fake, it is a sentiment shared amongst many people I've talked with.

Look at the company's press releases. New deals and contracts are being announced on a regular basis. There are several other reasons, that cannot be named, to be positive about the future of this company. All I can say is that I have maxxed out my ESPP and cannot believe my good fortune to be acquiring shares at ridiculously low prices.
