Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Does anyone have any explanation for this?

https://search.ftc.gov/search?affiliate=ftc_prod&query=Broadcom+vmware&commit=Search

If you search Broadcom VMware on the FTC website, nothing shows up.

After HSR waiting period has passed without challenge, FTC is green light until/if they decide to file a lawsuit (of course no guarantee they will). And no the HSR waiting period is not a deadline for FTC. If you want to learn more about that read the following page:

The only way to be 100% assured is if they gave explicit approval like consent order or letter of no contest.

If Broadcom has gotten those there is no way they wouldn't have mentioned it. They would also be saying they have "received" US/FTC approval instead of tiptoeing around the question with a vague statement like "there is no legal impediment to close the deal". Basically legal until it isn't situation.

Let me give you example of recent deals that FTC decided not to challenge and gave consent order.

It's been like 2 months since Broadcom said there is no issue in the US. Why didn't FTC have any updates for literally second largest and very conroversial tech deal in history?

Both the DOJ and the FTC have already begun implementing the guidance issued Wednesday, according to officials who spoke on a separate briefing by the agencies. The administration’s legal philosophy is grounded in an inherent skepticism toward mergers and aims to prevent an array of potential harms beyond high prices, such as reduced innovation, anemic labor markets, and weakened supply chains.

FTC is severely underfunded and understaffed. Probably they think the Chinese are going to block this deal anyway. FTC is also awaiting further strengthening of the law. So they will wait? HSR may be more BS spread by HT like other BS on China.

@sgo+1prh6CeM You're provable right TS2 is a low quality AI generated article. However that doesn't necessarily make it a fake news (although that article is full of inaccuracies like the size of the deal).

Not saying anything definitively one way or the other though. The only publicly available information has a lot of uncertainties and everyone including the media is just taking Broadcom/Hock Tan's statements at face value

“TS2 article is AI generated fake news. Lots of red flags”

Figures. Thanks though, I had missed the internal chats.

I found this the other day https://ts2.space/en/the-federal-trade-commission-postpones-approval-for-broadcoms-vmware-takeover/ but no other sources mentioned, and this site could be sketch, so take with a massive grain of salt.

So based on what's publicly available, I think what Broadcom has with FTC is "close at your own risk" approval. I think that's what Broadcom means by "no legal impediment in the US".

What's probably missing from that sentence is "for now"

Of course I could be all wrong about this
