Serious question. Do you know anyone who is late career and is happy? Is that really where you want to end up? Leave before you become that guy.

@OP Do you know anyone over 45 who is/would be happy to drag themselves across town to a cubicle every day to earn a paycheck?
45 would pass for young at Exxon and most operating companies. I know guys in their 70s who are still working, and not because they’re great at what they do or they enjoy doing it either.
Being “happy” is a very open ended question. I am not happy overall with what has happened in this company. There are many many things that are disappointing. But I did get 3 promotions after 45. I am RE, never been a HiPo, I have never been in MD and currently very well ranked. So it is possible

I seriously do not know of anyone here who is happy with EM regardless of age.
Im over 45 and happy. Great work life balance. Good ranking. Like my job.

It was different for me. It was all good until I retired
After +20 years of industry O&G experience, I quit BP and hired on as an EM employee at the age of forty nine (49) years old. I then worked another 15 years until retirement. My salary increased yearly in small increments until I reached a peak salary at the age of 64; it then flattened the year I announced retirement. My ranking did drop as a approached 65 but I did not worry much about it.
I was never a more than a site supervisor with many managers above me on the org chart (EERR!!) I never got stock options. If I had a sponsor I never knew it. I don't even know what my CL was. Didn't care really. The money was good and I ways felt my operational skills were in demanded (the year I retired my super asked me the stay another year but I declined).
For those who believe their EM career has stalled, you get off your knees, pull up your pants and move on until you find a better employment. You only have one life. Make it count. You can do it!!
I resigned last year at 41 because the handwriting was on the wall.
Well into RE and very satisfied as expat. My ranking was steady for years then fell off a cliff at age 57. However, I have a great position with excellent compensation to more than make up for it. Can't complain really.
Age 60s MPT Upstream. Been expat for many years now. I'm very pleased with current personal situation and have been for years. The day they tell me I'm in EMTEC is the day I put my papers in.
52 for me.I’ll never forget my boss telling me the BR DH dropped me because I made too much money. What a clown. Glad I left.
If you stay at this company you just have to realize your CL and salary will peak at 45. After that it is flat with real earnings after considering inflation declining. Best you can hope for us to hang on until you can retire but don’t expect raises or promotions unless you are very lucky. Most everyone has their rank tank after 45 and never recover.
Was manageable until about 48...then got the usual top to bottom ranking kicking. Checked out since then.
Happy at EM. I had a good run with this company. I am 62 years old working upstream. I am looking forward to a very happy, long retirement surrounded by family.
45 is when your karma points expire. It's downhill from there.
