Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

PTO Reduction

Soooooo... because there’s a pandemic and Macy’s is building a multi-million dollar skysc-aper in NYC, they cut the benefits of employees without saying a word. Just take a look at your 2021 PTO, soak it in and realize Macy’s doesn’t care about you. They now care only about real estate...

I have 30 days PTO at 8 hours a day equaling 240 hours but for 2021 it is now based on 7.9 hours a day totaling 237 hours. Don’t know why that is because I work 40 hours every week. They are saving a lot if they are skimming a few hours off of everyone in the company.

PTO 2021 is exactly what I should be getting for this year. I was a manager and now a captain and was told that vacation would change because of that job title change but because of my years of service I remained the same amount. The only difference was the It’s your time days that I didn’t receive because I was not a manager anymore.

PTO and Sick Pay is tricky and varies with State and Local. You need to read the policy on Insite. Sometimes even the AST's or the Sales Managers (or whatever they are called now) don't fully understand what is written. You have to be persistent to get what you want. Contact HR if you need help.

Are you in a state that just passed a new law about sick pay? If so then yes you list some PTO but you gained sick time that Macys now has to pay. It evened out.

To the previous responder: The furlough DID impact accruing PTO days, but in our store, the PTO days were taken back in the 2020 retail calendar year which ends this week. It should NOT affect 2021. Look into this to make sure you are getting what you are entitled to.

It's probably less because of the furlough. PTO was not accrued during that time. They notified us of this at the outset. This shouldn't be a surprise.

Do you work less hours per week/day? Because it’s based on averages mine actually went up this year because I worked more.

Building construction contracts are paid for months and years in advance and they sign up leases for occupants well in advance too. Macy's is as much in the real estate business as it is in retail nowadays, and if they don't follow through, they'll lose a ton of money which would result in laying off even more employees. The incoming rent that comes from finishing an already massively delayed by COVID building supports the retail operation, and if they don't, it's just loss heaped on top of loss, because the potential tenants will just walk away. Things are just a lot different when you're in management. No option is good, and you've got to allocate, because when you reach a certain level, getting personal is just nepotism. Everyone from the CEO on down working for the company is an employee or a contractor, and they answer to whomever they answer to, whether it's a manager, the CEO, the board,, shareholders, and ultimately the customers who support the whole shebang.

It will show. You have to look at the drop box screen where you enter MTO for approval. Just change the date from 2020 to 2021.

Every year at this time there are people that post of getting their PTO cut but I never see any evidence of this.
