- speculation is that he is hoping to push even more folks out the door.

RTO in US or Mexico and India.
Ford WHQ needs to leave Dearborn soon to be close to it workforce.
@hll+1nokhJz9 Having worked with some of those LCC engineers, I can tell you we're more than competitive. It takes 3 of them to do the job of 1 engineer located in North America... and it'll still take the LCC engineers weeks to get the project completed.
Don't get me wrong, executives will still ship jobs there because they're completely disconnected. I just don't think it's a threat long term as companies that go down this road will eventually see the error of their ways.
Vested interest to be in Dearborn for what??
If we could do in Dearborn from home over the last 3 years, they can do in LCCs very easily for so much less!
Look again at those technical centers both in Mexico and Chennai- they will do anything to claim anything can be done there. In the meantime look at us, so expensive and in denial, even complaining of a possible RTO instead of worrying how not competitive we are to those LCC engineers.
Good luck to all!
Most of you here have Doug Field all wrong. He is genuine, to the point, and will RTO if requiring his team to RTO. He is in Ford for the long haul, so there is vested interest to be in Dearborn.
@lsj+1nokhJz9 swimming in de nile.
The company was already moving to WFH and changing to the unassigned desk model BEFORE the pandemic. It didn't make sense to pay for buildings, cleaning staff, desks, electricity, security, etc. etc. just to have people sitting in their cubicles attending WebEx meetings.
As for moving engineering out of the country, well I have to point out that the internet has been around for a while now. It's been available to most areas of the world for almost 30 years. If these multinational companies COULD have moved engineering to other countries, they already would have. I honestly don't know why they haven't been able to. Maybe because all their "best and brightest" have been moving to the U.S.? You would think India and China would get fed up with losing their people.
I don’t agree. WFH is very convenient to Ford to accelerate moving almost everything to LCC, when are you going to get this? We will be all replaced by LCC engineers while WFH continues!
RTO then is coming back once that transition is over but by that time only a very needed group of skills remains so I don’t think they will enforce RTO that strictly even that time.
Seems like we have self proven for the last 3 years that pretty much everything can be done from home so it’s very understandable the company decided to use cheaper engineers.
WFH has been great and I myself got so much time back with my family but the company had this master plan.
I am not gong in until I see df rto in Dearborn daily. I am not rto just to webex into meetings with him at the office. Where is Gemba and lead by example if df is not physically there
To the last poster, it will be musical chairs. Fight for your place at the office if you want to keep your job.
I'll believe it when I hear it from Doug. This board seems to constantly be predicting a RTO and it never materializes. Currently we don't have the facilities to even house our engineers in Dearborn so I do not see a RTO even being possible.
lol turn out the lights. thanks for making me laugh during these trying times
Guess he will have to be in MI too. Oh wait, it doesn’t apply to leadership. SMH
@rqk - No intent to go back to the office here. If I'm going to end up going back to sit in an office everyday I'll find a place less toxic & stressful than here
When DF lives in SE MI, I will comply.
You guys are going into the office?
