Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Happy Holidays!

This is a great time to think of all the people who lost their jobs and those struggling to stay working at what was once a great American company. Also time for the Executive Committee and all the Steering Committees to reflect on all thousands of lives and families whose holidays you have ruined, especially where you have fired and released people right before Christmas. These are heartless people.

MR turns 65 in September, I believe. But realistically his retirement has already begun, and 2024 will be largely ceremonial for him as he introduces his replacement to key partners, analysts and investors while jetting around the world in a farewell tour. Gotta load up the corporate jet with favorite wines and trinkets from around the globe while he can do it on the company's dime.

Let me guess, we should continue to trust the process?

The incompetent leader has just sent his Christmas greeting to all employees. Which month in 2024 will he be retiring?

Re: Layoffs

I’ve been on both sides of the layoff table and fully understand the meaning of “for profit” business.

However, when malfeasance by senior management is either ignored or rewarded with a golden parachute, when CEOs are making 350 times the amount of the average worker, and when educated derelicts destroy families after making one poor management decision after another, it is hard not to become cynical with American business.

I remember that day well. Don't forget Patrick is just as guilty. There has never been a plan to make Austin robust since MK was thwarted. They have created a creepy ghost town that is embarrassing to walk through.

Twenty-five months ago almost to the day, Wicked Wendy went on a little southern trip. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving she stopped by Austin for a self-guided tour of the facility just to take a look at things, see the facility and visit her old colleagues from her days in EMD. You can imagine how many people were in the building when she popped in around lunchtime. She apparently saw enough in her 30 minutes to decide to go ahead and activate her slash and burn plans which she's been gleefully executing ever since. I'm sure she's thrilled to trade hundreds--maybe thousands by now-- of EWS employees' jobs around the globe in exchange for her '3' rating on her EPR. Her holidays have been bright for 2 years running. I hope Bald Bob put a bow on the year end opcomm meeting powerpoint so the two of them could enjoy the scorched earth they've left behind.

I mean, I agree that having layoffs in 5 of the last 7 years is bad, but there's a never a good time for layoffs, Christmas or otherwise.
