Anyone ever receive a counter offer? Wondering how to handle if I do receive it.

I was planning on playing with my Johnson all night on Friday, but I wouldn't normally post that online and ask for opinions on it because other people's opinions don't affect me or anyone else in any way. How is this any different?

I just have a talk with MW. He told me to tell you don't let the door hit you on the way out. He found someone he can pay less for to do the same work.

Whenever I was asked by my manager about when I was planning on retiring, my answer was always something along the lines like, “Perhaps one day when I grow long-grayed hair and my b@lls drag the floor when I walk, but that time is very far off”. He would chuckle and leave me alone.

@rjp, entirely correct, and let others here learn from this. Never let anyone know your intentions to leave or even your displeasure with the company, or that you're financially comfortable enough to retire. Minus a package scenario, they'll find a way to lay you off. I can guarantee you that most people over 50, and definitely everyone over 60 (if there's any left) has been asked by their manager "off the record" when you intend to retire.

No issues, boss said sorry to see you go. Sounded genuinely disappointed, no indication of a counter but not interested if there is. Between culture, lack of accountability, salary, lackluster CIP (despite stellar earnings), uninteresting busy work, constant talk of promotions and it never materializing I'm ready to move on.

Counteroffer? Do you think this is Let’s Make a Deal? Monty Hall doesn’t work here.
Word of advice to everyone…. Don’t be overheard talking about longing for retirement, quitting your job, how rich you are, your huge 401k balance, your mortgage is paid off. Do not make it known (even exaggerating) of how well off you are. You get people talking and before you know it, you’ll become the first contestant on The Price is Right. You’ll move to the top of the list of candidates for the next layoff.

Don’t expect any counteroffer, unless HR is feeling generous that day and gives you the choice of remaining in the building either of 5 or 10 minutes, your choice.

You won’t get a counteroffer to stay with the company if you announce your retirement or resignation. Do you think you are Elon Musk or Tim Cook? If you put in your notice to retire, you’ll go through the process like everyone else wanting to retire. If you put in your letter of resignation, you may expect to be given 5 minutes to gather your essential things that will fit in one small box before getting escorted out of the building by Security. Everything else remaining will be boxed up and shipped to your home address on file.

Haha! counter-offer? CVX doesn't play that tune. You won't even get an exit interview. No need. CVX knows why people leave. The last thing an HR business partner wants to do is write up an exit interview report that explains the details of a toxic work environment. Good luck at your next gig.

If you've been ignored / passed over / invisible before, what makes you think a counter-offer is going to change things? As others have said, you'll be pushed immediately to the top of the next layoff list. Once you decide to leave, do not change your mind.

Don't accept if you already have another signed offer. If you don't feel valued now, what makes you think that past behavior will change upon your acceptance of a counter offer.
