If I was hired as a remote worker over 15 years ago can I be forced to go to the office?

They can and are forcing folks back to offices despite the office they were originally hired through due to its closure. This could mean commutes to almost two hours and additional expenses. There is no more a concern for employees work life balance it’s let’s get them to quit so we don’t have to pay severance. The new quiet layoff.

Even though I doubt it from what I heard from those high up, the original verp was a one time deal. However, if they do offer a verp 2, friends do yourself a favor and jump on it before they change their mind. I took verp 1 and I’m in heaven - absolute heaven!

If you were hired as a remote worker, it was by old management. Unless the person is still around who hired you, you know they’ll make an excuse of why you need to now be in the office.

Folks, RTO is not an option, it’s a fact. Covid was the reason for remote work. Read Petey’s announcements about covid and you’ll see it was only a matter of time when you needed to RTO, unless you got a medical exemption which was case by case.

How remote folks are to be handled has NOT been adjudicated. I can say with confidence based on 13+ years tenure is management will bungle it like they do most things. Also, start watching your comments at work, being overly critical isn’t acceptable. AIG prefers employees who follow the Peter/Party line. If you need a primer, read 1984.

HR will tell you to refer to the revise employee hand book once it’s out.

Focus is US Remote for now and yes, all US remote are under review for RIF. Pete is desperate to cut headcount to reduce costs. They should re-offer VERP as I bet more people are now willing to take it this time

So much nonsense on this site. New remote requests need sign off. Existing remote employees are fine
