Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

At Sabre we aren't the only ones, its just worst for us. Amadeus and Travelport will lay off too

I know people at Amadeus and Travelport and both will be laying off. Amadeus is in more trouble in the US because they cannot lay off people in France and Spain so US will take a big hit, like 25 to 30 percent. Travelport will probably be 10 to 15 percent

Amadeus had a round of layoffs on July 6t, in the US at least. Came down from the top. I think my managers were more surprised than I was.

Did Amadeus label it a lay-off?
It might sound ridiculous but I think many furlough people think they will be returned to Sabre.
As foolish as it sounds, the email communications were designed to give that impression.

@1lks+14RxSjYM Their liquidity is more like 1.5B and I've found a way to legally extract 1 penny per 1000 per day until July 31st, which is 1.2M {if my math is correct}. Then I'm going to an itty-bitty island in the South Pacific that has WiFi so I can keep up with thelayoff.com/sabre-holdings. Arrivederci!, Arrivederla!, Ciao!, Addio!

I do not see any value in posters on this forum maintaining the fiction that the lay-off is just a 2 month furlough.

Do you guys realize there is NO money coming in. Those left to work aren’t doing your jobs. They are trying to keep the lights on and trying to keep more and more airlines from going bankrupt. Because those airlines pay the salaries.

No bookings, no passengers boarded means no revenue. Colleagues pays is coming from borrowed dollars.

So sit back. Collect your unemployment and stfu. I can tell you many folks still working are so demoralized because others are with high stress levels they would gladly have taken unemployment for 2 months.

If you ‘know’ people at Amadeus, you would ‘know’ better how they are handling the situation. There’s the carrot approach (Amadeus), and the stick approach (Sabre). In Amadeus’ case, they are offering either a voluntary reduction in pay commensurate with reduced hours/days worked for a set period of months, or a voluntary leave of absence up to a year (paid a fraction of salary). Both options are incentivized in various ways. And that is worldwide, with minor differences based on laws in different regions. No telling if there will be layoffs in the future, but I’d take that approach over Sabre’s thus far any day.

Travelport has ZERO diversification in its business lines, so is far worse than even Sabre when it comes to revenue and debt, so who knows how they’ll approach this. I myself have experienced some of the cruel ways TP (and Cendant before it) used to let go of staff...

@qey+14RxSjYM:

when you say "We have OVER 1.1 Billion CASH in the bank"... you don't really mean "we"... right?

20-25 million might not seem like a lot to you or me, but it is 20-25 million more that can be used for executive compensation.

Its not ONLY the fact that the company furloughs or lays people off, asks for early retirement, asks for voluntary pay reductions, cuts pay by 15 percent. It's how they handle it and if they are doing it fairly. It's also if they are doing it with the employees and company's best interest in mind. Rather than from a Self-Serving platform. At the beginning of this, employees were vested in this direction. You saw even a vast amount of offshore people voluntarily contributing 15 percent of their pay. In the beginning of this we were all a team. Now everyone is divided. running like ants looking for a crumb to cling too. Ask yourself. Why ?
What happened ? The way you treat people matters and it will ultimately reflect the companys productivity and performance. (You see it in your day to day i sure).

There was no reason the furloughs couldn't have been thought out better, could have been performance based, could have figured out how to not divide visa holders vs non visa holders (in some way). They could have taken gov loans (which may/may not even be available to the two other companies you mentioned). This would have guaranteed staffing levels for a time period where everyone could plan the next pivot. We have OVER 1.1 Billion CASH in the bank. the furlough is probably saving us 20-25 million a month. thats not a lot when you have 1.1 billion.
