You do realize that we're next, right? Just because in this specific round we managed to dodge the bullet, doesn't mean we're safe. If you think that, you're deluded. We'll share a similar fate to management soon enough, so it would be good to show some sympathy and understanding.

@1whw lets figure out who is the hack. Please tell us all of the middle managers who were vigilantly telling the truth that there were too few craft employees to complete all work on time and to standard during a regular 40 hour work week. Then tell us all of the middle managers who either did not say anything contrary about craft job eliminations or expressed support for agreement furloughs. UP as a responsible railroad should NEVER tell an FRA representative

You probably have a job that anyone can do with little training and you probably have no other work experience in life you hack. You don’t have anything figured out about this place. Get back to looking at your boards non stop cause your so curious where everyone is you chump.

that is 100% of UP’s problems. For decades now managers shouldve been MANAGING not just saying yes to bad ideas and hoping the $hitshow would stay together long enough for themselves to either get promoted again or not fall apart long enough so they could retire. Half of a managers job is managing their supervisors. Not just saying “okay” and agreeing to furlough their employees, eliminate jobs in their work group, and then try to force and intimate the remaining employees to do their work and the work the furloughed employee's used to do also.
Do not feel sorry for these managers!!! They were a joke of positions they had!!
@qbg-We know that. It’s more of how they treated people over the years, especially with this PSR scheme, is why we have no sympathy them. Maybe you have a good manager and hate to see them go, but as for me I absolutely hate mine and will gladly throw a pizza party myself if they get rid of him.
I just hope the “manager” in Hope, Arkansas (the one who keeps lanterns on his window sill, each one representing a person he got fired) enjoys his life now that he has to go back into the craft. Hope Vena has this managers lantern, if he ever had one, under his special pillow.
Your local manager has never laid people off! He/she is in the rat race just trying to provide. Sympathy shouldnt have to be asked for when people lose their jobs. If people dont have it then they should examine themselves and ask why. Not rocket science here folks. We all just want to provide for our families.
They’ve already announced MOW layoffs soon so a lot of agreement employees will be going as soon as the end of this month….
@OP-I’m going to try to reply to this as nice and honest as I can, but those managers don’t care about us, why should we care about them. There was never any solidity to their jobs in the first place. On top of that, many were never really qualified for the jobs they had, over paid for their skill level, education and knowledge, and it was only a matter of time before that foundation crumbled. I agree with you that agreement employees may unfortunately be getting effected by this round soon, but let’s be honest I think we have more solidity in our jobs than the managers did. We also add more value to the railroad by the work we do, and most managers were overpaid obstacles to our productivity. He probably won’t do this only because only knows to get rid of things, but if Vena truly wanted himself and the railroad to “This is how we win”, then he should reduce the overinflated number of management, then see how things are going and make adjustments to agreement employees only if needed.
Managers now want us to feel sad for them where were you clowns when agreement employees got furloughed so what goes around cones around not feeling sorry for you managers that ran this company to being the worst in the nation to work for!!I and a lot of agreement employees never seen managers doing anything productive now they want us to feel sorry for them NOT!!
What makes you so sure that the lower people are next? Are you aware of the government hearings that were started due to service issues resulting from the lack of manpower? I will show ZERO sympathy to the management side. The management side are the ones that have caused ALL of the problems! More than half of the management has no clue of what they're doing, and most of them have never performed the work they're in charge of. If the management actually knew what they were doing, then the UP wouldn't be as bad as it is! So getting on here recommending people be nice and sympathetic to the management because of their job losses is laughable and borderline narcissistic. Where were they when we were losing our jobs?? Were they on here tell others to be nice because we lost our jobs, NO! I just want them to feel the pain a lot of us felt when we lost our jobs. I was nice to them before. I lost my job some time ago and not one of them stood up to defend or fight for us during our job loss. They just did what upper management wanted, which leads us to today.
Werent most of those managers offered hard to hire jobs within UP? How many furloughed employees who were truly needed bcuz non-furloughed employees are over worked were also offered jobs?
If you are posting this that people should empathize and treat others the way they’d like to be treated, I agree. Must you be reminded how managers just at best silently agreed to eliminate agreement positions while all those managers knew full well the employees they managed were being over worked. I never witnessed one single manager try to tell upper management the truth that agreement employees were over extended and that UP needed more head count. As Vena has said, in the 9 layers of management the message from what happens in the field wasn’t clear by the time it reached the top. Whose fault was that?
