Thread regarding Illumina Inc. layoffs

Major changes coming

Heard that our COO is about to crack the whip and completely reorganize some departments like product marketing, some sales, some corporate functions. August is going to be a month from he-l I’m afraid. That guy needs to go. What’s his track record in last year?

How will sales be impacted? Prime sales functions or overlay sales functions? What are the rumors?

@vr yes, but EC is probably dictating what needs to be done for the time being.

@v2 I think head of region in AMR. They are ranking salespeople to see who is underperforming. Those individuals will leave the org.

@v0 : What is stack ranking, what is HoR, and what are you trying to say?

Stack ranking for sales just released by new HoR. Get ready for firings in guise of layoffs.

@qa why do you think this is not happening the same way in Europe? In the UK three influential VPs literally left last month.

@sy I think EC will shake things up soon. The existing product management leadership has been around a long time. I bet he’ll bring more commercially minded leadership in the mix.

That’s what happens when you hire a bunch of product managers with PhDs. Barely any MBAs in the mix. Not that a degree is the end all be all, but these hardcore PhD-ers know nothing about business.

Always hilarious when the called out individual or their minions gets on here to rebut but without any response to what is called out. What has the CCO done… gutted the commercial team, lost centuries of experience in genomics interesting though Europe leaders are untouched, wonder what that shows about who is pulling the strings. In the US we’ve lost key leaders who knew customers and had relationships, and worse these people are turning up at our competitors.
There is no strategy, commercial gets the blame but the real fault at illumina is the marketing product development team who keep dropping prices, developing shoddy financial plans and products that have no market. That is why we are where we are. No accountability for those driving the direction, they keep blaming the field for their mistakes.

Talk about a low effort spam/troll.
Illumina has no COO everyone . Not sure what to make of your post and other loud posts here with such an obviously bullsh-t piece of made up information. What up next , Chief Entertainment Officer?

They may be gearing up to make an acquisition in the oncology space. I don’t think it’s over.

Been saying this for over a year now. The company is in massive trouble. The ELT don’t have a strategy, a roadmap or plan to lead us out of this, what seems like a death spiral. Their only recourse seems to be endless rounds of layoffs to cook the bottom line and for those left behind its endless reorganisations. It’s literally moving deckchairs on the Titanic. Illumina is holed below the waterline.

Although the share price is starting to inch upwards - my feeling, backed by observable evidence is that the ELT are inviting bids for ILMN. Because there is no way pithy emails about “being in this together”, whilst removing RSUs, which did make everyone “in it together”, ignoring a maturing market and inherent trends and basking in the fast fading glow of being a monopoly and a share price of $512 is working.

And the absolutely tragic thing about all of this? The rank and file employees who are the driving talent of this company are being sh-t upon by executives, who play hard and fast but are seemingly never held accountable for their disastrous decision making.

@c3 Keep hearing the same as well. I also heard that our CCO is now yelling to the sales leaders in meetings and to others. Very nice environment. And there is NO STRATEGY. so growth is not magically going to appear. 7/31 earnings call should be interesting. RIF, RIF, RIF is the new ILMN value and song. That is all they know how to do to keep their ESP and bonuses happening. Lord please help us.

@a5 sales has been kicked started significantly this year. Perfect storm of current leadership not understanding the industry, overpriced products, increased cheaper competition and all the government spending cuts and VC money drying up this year. Try selling in this environment. No doubt we’re getting decimated by a RIF in August. Hope the best for everyone.

In the absence of real strategy or willingness to adapt to the market, RIF, reorg, and RIF again. CCO seems to think that “discipline and rigor” or whatever is the issue. Nope, thats not it, though I’m glad that he seems to enjoy that consultant-generated phrase. The bigger issue is a complete disconnect between the leadership class and the average customer. Go out and talk to someone who isn’t an illumina employee or consultant, it’s helpful. Adjust your commercial offering, pricing, promotions, etc for the needs of the market. Then you’ll see improvements. But the plan to continue beating underlings is a foolish one undertaken by a leader (and leaders) lashing out due to misaligned strategy. The folks on the ground have been been BEGGING leadership for the changes they need to meet the current market. I can tell you from experience that it’s almost universally ignored OR punished.

@b0 Ah ok, so ‘CCO’ and not ‘COO’ as was stated in the original message. Makes more sense. Kevin P certainly wouldn’t be rearranging commercial functions! Lol.

I think people are talking about the email from Everett Cunningham about Realignment of our Global Commercial geographic structure?

Sales need to be kick started big time. You’ll see changes in commercial. It’s already happening.
