Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

All of SJ TAC, save for 2 teams, has been LR'd

Got the notice today. Literally every team in SJ TAC, besides 2 (newest techs, fill-in-the-blank), has been LR'd.
All managers, including the 2 teams that stayed, have also been LR'd.

SJ workforce moving to outsourced support.

Age discrimination is real at Cisco. When you get your package, you promise not to sue Cisco. That in itself is a red flag.

Lots of boomer-type PMs were decimated. Age discrimination?

It’s true. The only other job is the PM doing minutes and calling meetings.

I had to laugh about the TME getting all the work. I don't believe that too much. Not unless the customer paid an up-charge to have things hosed before it starts.

I’m not complaining. I just wonder about a consulting organization that loads every deliverable with tons of overhead while the people doing the work (for the CX books) are free!

@pta+17k8aO9t

Lmao you complaining about having a job bro? Or are you minimizing the fact that hundreds of people lost theirs? Can’t tell: trying to see if you’re lazy or un-empathetic or a little of Column A and a little or Column B.

Don’t think you’re untouchable. The bill comes home eventually.

Hah CX. I am a TME and I just got “invited” onto a customer call for a CX project. Well, guess who has ALL the deliverables? And there are 7 other people on the call, and I get all the work.

Very sad to hear this. I worked for Cisco for 20 years and had excellent support from Sydney TAC engineers. Best of the best! Huge loss for Cisco.

as a customer, I would wait until the Aussies came online to open any TAC cases. Absolutely brilliant people, so sorry to hear this happening.

Sad day for Cisco

TAC is/was one of the few remaining GEMS left at this company, of course we should crush it. CX logic.

Wow! Beginning of the end, as a end user and then a Cisco employee for 15 years that was part of the initial slaughter of CS by Maria her model only achieves one this , short term savings of cash nothing else. Currently working for a partner and when dealing with Cisco CX it's a wonderland of young know nothings and very sad. Still have a few friends there but most took the ER and are loving being out of Cisco before they crash and burn. Their software strategy is complex and because of this you need back office support which they appear to be outsourcing. Sad Day for Cisco and all of us that spent a good part of out lives there.

Waiting for news for Brussels TAC, that is far more expensive than Krakow and Lisbon.
Despite of more seniority in Brussels, it's all about business, nothing personal. And that's sad(

Could you tell us which TAC teams were NOT impacted?

It’s not TAC it’s the liberal crazies in California. I’ve been told do not hire in California. I think RTP is safe.

Outsourcing trend seems to be increasing exponentially, in every hi-tech sector.

22 years in networking, talked to Sydney and SJ TAC too many times to count. Cant begin to express how important that org is. TAC saves companies all day and night from chaos. From the heart thank you for all you have done over the years. So sad they would do this. I can only guess ELT wants to run the company into the ground.

RTP is going to be next. If you have a working brain and you are in TAC, you need to move either in RCDN or MXC.

Our TAC team was axed two years ago. We were caught by surprise. Our manager was being forced out and upper management told them we were not impacted. Ended up being a lie. The jobs were moved to Richardson. None of us were offered to go there not even the most experienced. Ended up finding a better job a way better job. However the down side was I was stressed for a time. We knew our time at SJ was running out. I believe RTP will be next. Richardson, Mex, India and the teams in eastern europe will be where its at. Palo Alto has two team locations in the states, SJ and Texas. They cover 24 hours from what I understand. I think Cisco will take that route but will ditch RTP TAC. The CCIE testing facility is in Richardson so do the math.

Prior TAC and was LR'D. Could this actually be good for TAC folks?

Let them outsource it. Tons of places running older gear and will run it into the ground. If it ain't broke don't fix it. But it needs care and feeding. Old school TAC folks, if you dig that line of work, lots of places will still need your expertise. Even if now outsouced.

If you know how to quickly troubleshoot packets from point A to point B, across vlans, firewalls, over Cisco and other gear, and know a few niche technologies hands-on, and can pick up new stuff quickly in same mindset...companies and customers will always need you. Fly and be free. You are the big reason it all worked in the first place.

Rehire those desperate people through consulting companies. Significantly cut expenses.

Wow, heard this news in Sales today. What is Maria thinking? How can you outsource the TAC and get rid of the people who know Cisco's products better than anyone else? I don't get it. It's a sad day at Cisco!

That is insane.

TAC was a lifestyle for thousands of great engineers in 2000s. Some of my best friends still.

Sad to see it go brothers and sisters.

LR'D 2017. Still moving packets.

TAC helped build Cisco. The passion from Joe Pinto and a world class team made Cisco what it was. About the customer. And services was PROFITABLE, big time. Yes, Cisco needs to move to a software model, but man, this is NOT the way. If TAC is going to be outsourced, its the beginning of the end. I am very glad I took the package. But also very sad to see this.

Crazy.... let get rid of the smartest people we have. Let make the Tac experience harder.

Remember we charge customers for smartnet and then take the people they paid for that service away and then out source to cheap labor (India).

  • ELT should be given golden parachute, put people that know cloud and services and let try and save Cisco

Same with Sydney TAC. All but few teams axed with managers.

Stay strong, believe in yourself and take care. "New is always better"
