Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Know anyone who has been “voluntarily resigned” for not doing RTO?

Some great people quit, one even ahead of bonuses, because they hate RTO. But I haven’t seen anyone who just didn’t show up and kept working from home get in trouble…

Why wouldn’t senior “leadership” inform folks of the new reports? Is it a gotcha tactic?

And who gets Walt’s RTO attendance report?

MD here, we received our first RTO compliance reports this week. We were told we don’t need to act on it but it's strongly implied that it will matter in the future.

Target number is 80% compliance. This looks at badge swipes per day for each employee and takes into account workday entries for PTO, approved remote work weeks, and other approved remote work.

Numbers for our group ranged from 0% to 100%. Other than discussions with the non compliant folks, there are no actions planned yet.

We were told in our meeting this week that efficiency/performance numbers are low on Tuesday/Friday WFH days

Let’s see the data and the metrics used. And how it compared to pre RTO.

I’ll put good money down that they are full of sh--e

How are people not coming into the office … we were told at end of year that if you did not come in .. it would be treated as an unexcused absence.. and after more than three days .. you could be fired

We were told in our meeting this week that efficiency/performance numbers are low on Tuesday/Friday WFH days … and if there is not an increase it will end for all employees soon

I think this was the plan all along .. as my teams numbers are highest on WFH days

I got laid off but I know that this would have been impossible for me. I had at least 1 coworker located in the same city/office and a former manager who likes to socialize. They would have definitely check in if they never saw me go in.

IP address tracking is where you are working and where you went electronically. We’ve done that for a decade or more.

Electronically everything is now monitored. Your speed in the parking structure, badge swipes, location in building, web sites accessed, keystrokes and mouse movements. If investigated they have installed cameras around work areas.

Other companies can be worse, and there are legitimate requirements to some monitoring, but half the time it’s due to some over zealous tech and an officer with trust and control issues.

Best to use your own devices on cellular and never use corporate assets for anything non work.

@prl+1roptMEN - was anything mentioned in your performance review at all & are you in same location as your manager/team?

Heard they know who is not coming into the office and they know exact numbers and will address in near future. Imagine they are just getting their legal ducks in row for when they do approach people.

@oyv+1roptMEN what would IP address tracking mean to a non-tech person? Does that mean they can view websites you are accessing from home, even on non-work devices?

Just as morale starts to level out from rock bottom the EC will let us know just how big brother they are. Apparently Walt was going to call out attendance at some meeting this year but was persuaded not to. Also hearing more monitoring abilities are coming (think IP address tracking). Of any of this is true get ready for morale to test new lows.

Haven’t gotten a single question about it yet and haven’t gone in once. Not even sure where my badge is.

Badges? We don’t need no stinkin’ badges

It’s still early. They’re probably still seeing how compliant people are and figuring out how to punish. I’d give it til about mid-year.
