Offer rescinded

I just had a job offer rescinded. This has never happened to me before. I'm still in a state of shock and I'm just happy I didn't do anything rash, like quit ahead of time. Be careful, folks.

You run your budget that close to the wire?

I've had it happen before, just not at csco. It really stinks up things if you have to withdraw the 2 week notice from your current employer.

I've not quite had it happen before like that. I'd given my 2 week's notice and was in that week between roles so that I could move between locations when the new company called to say that they wanted to delay the start date by 3 weeks because they were having issues getting a laptop for me. Here I am paying for a new apartment, paid the 1st month's rent as a security deposit, and having state-to-state moving expenses and suddenly no income for 4 weeks instead of 1 week, plus the delay in getting the first paycheck 2 weeks after the pay period ended.

Then, Cisco did the same damn thing to me when taking a contractor role here. Gave my 2 weeks notice and ended my job on a Fri with plans to start at Cisco on Monday, but it snowed heavily that day so they delayed the entire project team's start date until Wed. Then, for some reason, they couldn't get laptops for myself and one other team member, and they wanted to delay our start dates until the laptops arrived while the other team members started orientation. Typical Charlie Foxtrot situation.

@ppj+1oHQMCau, possibly. Or possibly not.

I had a company rescind the job offer on the Fri before I was supposed to start on Mon. I'd already moved to the new city, was literally doing the apartment walk through inspection after signing the lease before moving furniture in when I got the call.

Then, the company has the gall to call me back 2 months later to "offer" me the same job again, but this time in yet a different city. They said the reason the first offer had been rescinded was because they decided to convert the role from a contractor role in Charlotte, NC and make it a full-time employee role in Norfolk, VA. Given that I'd just relocated from Richmond, VA to Charlotte, NC and got screwed over by them, I didn't jump at the chance to relocate back to VA. Instead, I'd taken a contract role w/ Cisco in RTP.

Then, about 18 months after joining Cisco as a red badge, I was asked to convert to blue and had gone through the application process, interviewed, and received an offer contingent upon completing the background investigation. During the week that the background investigation was taking place, Cisco went into a hiring freeze and rescinded that offer. But, I was able to keep working with my current vendor & stay in that role as a contractor until the hiring freeze was lifted and then restart the hiring process all over again about a year later. And I'm still here. So, that's two rescinded offers, and neither was for a "backdoor reference".

It is odd, however, since we're not in a hiring freeze that an offer would be rescinded. I do know a guy who was on my team a long while back who left for a role at NetApp down the street that almost had his conversion offer rescinded because the background check found something negative, but it turned out to be for someone with the same name, but a different social security number and was a false finding.

The old backdoor reference got you. Companies do this frequently to prevent bad hires. Sorry.

Hopefully csco sends a check of some sorts but then they have no problem hosing long time employees. Good luck to you.
