The government gets to decide. The problem is the standards are too lax. Also places like Lowe's are frankly part of the problem too - it's a giant home improvement warehouse, and the fact that we have so many departments frustrates anyone ability to shutdown non essential businesses.
So live nurseries are shut down, and Lowe's has one... Is Lowe's shut down? No! Is Lowe's live nursery section shut down? No! Because, uh, we can sell water heaters. It's absurd.
how many people die before we hit the magic $200 stock price???
What is essential, and who gets to define what that means?
Water heaters are essential, right? What about the factory that makes them—are their workers essential? What about the truck drivers that deliver them to the stores, aren’t they essential? What about the plumbers that are relied upon to install them, are they essential?
“Essential” —what does that mean?
Yes, you are a bad guy, or maybe just a very selfish person. Stay home!!! Don’t tout loyalty now, you are being selfish.
No one is making 'loyal customers' bad or anything of the sort. Lowe's employees are just requesting customers to visit stores only for ESSENTIAL products. Please postpone all other projects, the same way doctors/hospitals are asking people to postpone non-urgent hospital visits and elective surgeries! It's all about stopping/slowing down the transmission of the virus. Lowe's stores are very crowded and are hence are not following the recommended social distancing procedures. You don't have to wait for your state to issue "shelter-in-place" orders; it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to observe social guidelines. Either you or the people you interacted with at the store, have the virus- you will, in turn, infect many other people in your family, including the elderly and people with underlying medical conditions.
We are just requesting customers to be smart and to only come INTO the stores if they absolutely have to. I'm a homeowner as well and there are some projects that I wish I could do, but I have chosen to wait a little bit longer because of the ongoing crisis.
If we ignore all the directives, guess what will happen? All the innocent employees will be infected, and they will have to take MANDATORY quarantines, and the store will have to CLOSE. It's that simple. And a very likely possibility for many stores if the current trends and attitudes don't change. Thank you to all loyal customers and loyal employees. Let's all observe the social distancing guidelines to mitigate the spread of COVID-19!
I can only speak for myself but as a long term Lowe's employee I would say "No". However, most work places across the USA are limiting exposure of their employees AND their customers to the possible spread of this highly contagious virus. Lowe's is not. YOU have a choice as to whether your personal projects are worth the risks to your own health and potentially others. Our only choice as employees are to continue to show up for work or to quit. Period.
We are being exposed to HUNDREDS of people like yourself on a daily basis which is greatly increasing our risk of contracting this virus. And if we contract it than our families likely will as well. The reality of it is that anyone of us could currently be a carrier of this virus (even without showing any symptoms) and could be passing it on to others without even knowing it. Some of those people may fall into that 1% - 3% that will eventually die from it. Is it worth it to me to help direct you to your drill bits and risk giving you a virus that could eventually k–l you than the answer is also "No". It's called being socially responsible and the reality of it is each of us has to ultimately live or die from our own personal choices. I personally put a higher value on your life than your portfolio value. All I ask is that you attempt to show me, my family and my coworkers the same courtesy.
I am a shareholder and customer. I shopped twice this past weekend at my local lowes. I bought treated lumber, hardware, insecticide, some drill bits, and other various items for several projects that i am working on. In my state we are NOT under a ‘shelter in place’ order. Are you trying to make me and other loyal customers out to be some kind of bad guy or something?!
It will never stop. Your life means nothing to the greed. Employees and family members will die from this.
