Thread regarding Illumina Inc. layoffs

Lately it looks like all the older employees are gone

Teams used to have a mix of younger, mid, and older employees, but now it’s mostly 20-somethings with maybe one older person. When somebody claims that people are not being laid off due to their age, this is the first thing that comes to my mind. Or this could be just my area, but still...

@t4 Yes this! They pinned some made up HR stuff on me before they let me go. It felt like I was being set up so that it would be more difficult to make an age discrimination complaint.

@s7 I agree. A friend of mine got made up HR stuff so he is fired at cause with no severance. Been there a long time.

They are most certainly targeting older employees. When I was laid off this year my manager mentioned that they were “sacrificing” senior team members so they can hire more junior members.

@p8 more qualified?? Bahahaha best joke of the year. You must be one of them if you think that. No ideas, no strategy. Ego doesn't equal competence. They have done nothing since they have come here and provide no direction… clueless. The market sees through them and its reflected in our share price

@p1 Why did the old regime stick around if they knew they couldn’t hit their targets? Again a bunch of money hungry executives. The new hires are much more qualified, yes.

@kw and the new crop of sales leaders are good??? Shows you don't understand the market macro economic conditions that you think the fault of not hitting targets is the previous leaders fault alone. Our ex CEO drove the price down too fast based on his ego and funding is in the toilet. Our new leaders have massive egos and don't work well with their teams. Time to hire more consultants…

@gv again they couldn’t hit their targets, they had to go long ago. Nikki and Gretchen were leeches off the company.

former region heads had to go. sure they had relationships but it clearly didn’t help with hitting targets. this is sales. you have to deliver results, else, off to the glue factory. still dealing with the consequences of their decisions. they didn’t take competition seriously until there was momentum. they shifted the market by giving great pricing to key customers at the expense of the rest. kudos.

@f8 up until Bas turned up and took all the credit for success he had no part in creating ( Europe building their clinical business) AMR and APAC were region of the year. Nikki not only knew the business but knew all the customers as did Gretchen. The reason we have no direction now is that our leadership has no idea where to focus, and the strategy leadership (JW) is useless. We are repeating mistakes made years ago and ignoring or marginalising people with experience that could help. What have we got from all these new leaders? NOTHING , new values, what a joke, this wont drive revenue. Affymetrix did this, they hired a bunch of GE people and it drove the business into the ground, illumina is doing the same. This company is the titanic and the ELT are playing violins.

@e0 Nikki and Gretchen couldn’t meet their targets. Who cares what they knew, they were ineffective.

In commercial we have lost an extensive amount of experience, centuries across the business. Especially in leadership roles, look at the heads of region and CCO, hardly a decade between them of genomics experience. Nicki, Gretchen between them had heaps of knowledge. These new guys have no idea and are just administrators who want more revenue but have no idea how to get it.
