This sounds crass, but people in your field are more often than nought viewed as leeches on the actual value producers in the company. I mean, have you ever asked what it is you actually do at the company? News flash: Your role solely exists for PR and HR. AKA, company PR around the latest alphabet culture craze.
But honestly, you really came to a layoff forum thinking it was a good idea to bring up your recent promotion in an almost entirely useless department? Meanwhile, the company has hiring freezes for positions that actually matter while good engineers suffocate.
Take it with a grain of salt. Or don't.
I work in the Diversity, Gender Equity, and Inclusion department. Recently got promoted but I'm slightly concerned about my job security here. My job is definitely an essential role but idk.

Yeah, I have some info. If you're a drag on the business, clueless, or just not trying...then yes, a layoff for you is inevitable. That goes for most private businesses.
