Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

More layoffs

Is there a way to know when layoffs will continue? Is there anybody who is in the know who could give us at least a hint on what to expect?

Imagine if you had to deliver layoff news and then you got laid off thereafter.

Thanks for explaining, it makes sense that is why they give the 60 days, to keep it quite.
How about the previous layoffs, Last year in Global IT 159 people were laid off, no mention in the WARN year overview of 2022 and I know that IT wasn't the only department that has seen layoffs in 2022

The way they deal with WARN is to inform individuals they are being laid off, cut off all their access and expect no work from them, but technically keep them employed with pay for 60 days. By doing it this way they can file the WARN notice at the same time they do the RIF so employees don’t get advance notice of an impending layoff (which is irrelevant in this instance since everyone knows it is coming).

@1udp+1m7beylu

I believe the WARNs are enacted when you are “laid off.” The day you get the news, you are required to vacate the office, but you are still technically a paid employee for the next 60 days to fulfill the WARN requirements. This also means anyone laid off at this point should still be eligible for whatever MIP we get this year.

Can someone explain to me how Medtronic is circumventing the WARN requirement?
Layoffs have to be reported to the MN government for every company with more than 50 employees. There have been so many layoffs in the last few years and now a massive one to be announced next week and there is no official WARN posted out there

GM was in Santa Rosa office yesterday. Guess why he was visiting, without requesting any product demonstration from any of the OUs here.

We have a lot of conference rooms here at Northridge/MiniMed, but most still showing open for next Mon-Wed. Nothing conspicuous in our director’s schedule for those days either even though we generate the least revenue by OU. This is being handled terribly but what more would you expect from Wonder Boy Geoff, let’s get it over with already

Yup I was just told that a conference room I have reserved on Tuesday for a recurring meeting "needs to be used by Mr VP"

Sweet. Also you can check the schedule of your manager/director/HRBP. For me it looks like they are all blocked off next week. Should be fun!

Check your conference rooms. Within Outlook at my facility it says "Communication Updates " all day Tuesday and Wednesday.

It all comes down to funded projects for the next year. Either way, layoff or no layoff let's take the best from the situation and move on. Remember that we own our careers and we should be driving them. Do the best you can with what you have. These times too shall pass.

@ Leaks of Information.
Oh they know they created the lists but are un nondisclosures not to talk, if one did it would be easy to figure out who it was doing the talking.

To the person asking how nothing has leaked: some managers do already know who is getting let go on their teams. But they’re not going to risk their own jobs and leak anything. It’s that weird calm right now where everyone pretends everything is normal despite planning to let people go in 96 hours.

Leadership of our group said today that more information about restructuring will be communicated next week. Our director mentioned job assignments for me in the new fiscal year, so either I still have a job, he is bluffing, or he is not yet aware of details. I hope it is the first case.

I highly doubt quarterly layoffs. Proof? They have always done (semi-)annually.

My fingerprint did the same thing, then told me my pin was wrong so I reset the pin and it still told me I was wrong. Only way I can get in now is password... Anyway, I heard that once they do this initial round of layoffs, they will continue to happen on a quarterly basis based on performance. So even if you are safe this time it still might be a good idea to keep some irons in the fire. And be VERY thorough on your annual review. Record every last little thing you've done in the past 12 months!

Same here on fingerprint log in. Didn’t work in the morning and had to restart. Thought exactly the same.

My anxiety goes up and down. Some days I worry and some days I don’t care. But like someone else said, I noticed that I am looking too deeply into every detail. This morning my fingerprint wouldn’t work to log into my computer and I immediately thought this was a sign of being a chosen one. Haha

There’s nothing to be done but I hate the waiting. The worst is that I feel like I’m reading into everything for clues as whether I’m on the chopping block. If I don’t get cut I’m definitely dreading all of the inevitable “we know this is a hard time” communications from leaders. I wish they would just keep it business like instead of pretending to care.

The best is when your contacts will be gone and nobody knows who picks up the slack. Que up two months of a sh-t show and speeches about hard decisions. Followed by a big fat raise for Geoff.

I'm worried, but at the same time I'm not worried. It's more like anxiety, but I know nothing can be done now. Anyone have tips on how you're handling this situation?

Truly wishing everyone the best possible outcome. But from what i have gathered. More than likely next mon to Wed. Email will come form HR and you will lose access to email and files that same day. In some situations, your manager had a say i some the managers had no say. You will still be on the books for 60 days.
P.s for those in California, those non compete clauses mean absolutely nothing.

Next week. My director was crying today at our team meeting talking about it.

It's been discussed in several formats but the consensus is next week. Retired HR thought Tuesday to be specific.
What other details I have read is corporate has yet to hand down the numbers and they said they will tomorrow so that's when all the communications will start. From there. My guess is maybe Monday they communicate to managers where the line is drawn and then managers will have to communicate to anyone affected in their group. This is purely speculation based on the various discussion I have read.

A poster claimed to be a retired HR says that layoffs should have been completed by the end of FY23 (end of April). Obviously, nothing in life is ever guaranteed.
