Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

Fear of layoffs as corporate strategy

Mediocre performance, layoffs, spending on toys instead of critical infrastructure, and an expanding executive team that rewards itself handsomely for failure.

Not being paid fairly and not doing anything about it is the mentality they hope you have, fear you might lose your job. It’s my observation that very few people will ever create a life where they don’t have to fear a layoff, that requires discipline. So, instead they take the corporate beat down indefinitely with silence and hoping to survive until the next round of beatings.

I came across this post made few days ago and frankly, I think this is the root of the problem on the side of employees. We lost the sense of professional and personal value out of fear. They can do with us whatever they want.

“ Mediocre performance, layoffs, spending on toys instead of critical infrastructure, and an expanding executive team that rewards itself handsomely for failure.”. Sounds like the GOP is running the place!

Kim Dorsett, a fear-inducing executive in Florida. Flying under the radar, she deploys her executioners “RL’s” & “AL’s” to sow dread among teammates, hinting at imminent cuts to enforce a dictated purpose. A commanding force in the executive team, even her own leader fears her, while she masks herself as the most compassionate EL! #TruistCaresLOL

They set the framework for 401k match reductions and pension limitations but clearly they can do more.

Calling BS on the pension and 401k news. They already made those cuts. Grow up.

You could always leave and find a new job if you're unhappy, that hasn't changed. Nobody has to work here, it's just a job, there is more than one job in the world.

@meo+1qpSJTOS I agree but probably not many people will as this is a southern bank and people tend to conflate 'union' with politics in the states here for some rsn. EL probably banking on that mentality too tbh.

People are worried about a bonus payout. Wait until you see the pension and 401k news. Set to drop after the earnings call.

I agree. I think this was part of the heritage bank personnel/cost strategy. They kept positions in small cities because they knew the Truist job was that persons best possible option if they needed/wanted to live in that area. I used to think this just about Lumberton and Wilson but I think it applies to Winston and Richmond now too. So you have all these talented people there working for less than you’d have to pay them if you hired in CLT and ATL, but you gaslight them into thinking they are lucky to have a job.

We should have leaned into this as an efficiency strategy (people demand less to work in low cost areas or fully remote) instead of throwing the strategy out with RTO and hiring only in Charlotte and Atlanta.

Fear of layoff will keep you complacent when they rug pull bonus and merit increase. "Be lucky to have a job"

That’s why we need to unionize like Wells. Turn the tables and make them fear us. We’re stronger working together.
