It’s all about the how do I get my next promotion and not about what is good for the company. The higher you go in Ford the worse it gets. If you ever check the work history of the higher ups they are never in a job more than 2 years, I’ve seen them less than a year. That way they can say they’ve worked in a discipline but never actually been responsible for an achievement or accountable. Some will use the standard excuse, that’s how they are well rounded but that’s just BS. I remember in the “next up” meetings talking about does the person meet core competency before moving on. How come it takes an Engineer so much longer than a leader to meet it??

@noa what falsehoods are in this thread? Published books one being “American Icon: Alan Mulally and the Fight to Save Ford Motor Company” document the Ford leadership behaviors. The Ford culture is common knowledge in Metro Detroit.

Voicing falsehoods about our leadership levels should not be permitted here.

I remember Mulally sharing in town halls the importance of truthful upwards reporting. He was initially receiving all green light reports from all divisions despite the company being in dire circumstances. The ingrained culture went mostly dormant while Mulally was leading the company. As soon as Mulally left, the old culture sprang back to life, fertilized by the aspirational friends and family contingent.

Anyone ever notice that honesty and integrity can land you in an awful lot of trouble at Ford?
It seems that complaisance, a talent for accepting without making waves whatever is handed down from above, is the primary quality Ford selects for. Complaisance is necessary to facilitate Ford leadership method of "solving" a problem by shooting any messengers providing bad news, to ensure that everybody falsifies data so that everything looks great on “paper”.

The shortcoming with Ford leaderships approach is that while “paper” reports look great nothing actually works in practice, and the higher management has (by their own a deliberate policy of not wanting to know what the actual situation is) no idea what's actually going on in the company and so any plans they make are near certainly based on false premises and almost certainly undeliverable.

So much waste/abuse/fabrications a blind man could randomly tap his cane and and most certainly have found waste at Ford.
