Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Any tips on how to get severance?

I want to get out of this BS company, can anyone give some tips on how to convince my leaders to lay me off and give me severance? I don't want to resign. I have been with the company for a long time and would get a sizeable severance if nominated

@OP Good luck with that. During the Husky /Cenovus layoff round there was a fellow that tried cause he was close to retirement. They wouldn’t package him cause it cost them to much. Why package a 15-20 year guy that’s going to leave for free in a year or so. Package off the 5-10 or less guy cheaper for the cheapskates. Good luck to everyone with this MEG situation. I am so glad I’m out of the “is my job safe” company. Spent way to many year worrying about losing my job. However when I did I had 7 job offers within days of leaving. There are plenty of opportunities out there. Anyone that gets laid off leave with head held high and know that you will land on your feet.

Call hr and say you suspect your manager is doing dr-gs , they’ll have the dr-g dogs in and he/she will go for a test pass with flying colours then you’ll be in the next round

@we all seeded questions. None are ever spontaneous, unless you stand up and actually get a mic.

I got mine last year after 20 years - such a relief! My manager was so narrow-minded all I had to do was disagree a few times and I was out. Working again in 6 months just confirmed how messed up the culture really is at CVE.

If you are over 55 I suggest you wait and it is coming very soon. Time flies

Please explain why you think of Cenovus this way? I am considering to work for CVE, but I am really shocked to see comments that put the culture of this company in a "low grade" territory. What is wrong with Cenovus? Is it really that bad?

Tough town hall questions need to be asked in-person. The spicy questions submitted online always get skipped.

Not to worry. It's all a waiting game. Stick around long enough and get too old and your time will come. Unless you tick some special DEI box, then you're sc--wed

Definitely questions at town halls and meetings with leaders.
If you are in IT, ask questions to MD or question leadership decisions - guaranteed gets you on the list for the next round.

Do the bare minimum, deliver late, produce half of what your peers produce, get noticed on long frequent coffee breaks. Put a bullseye on your back, but not enough to be let go with cause.

Your manager has a fixed budget for staffing and if she thinks she can get better value by replacing you, then you will be gone on the next round.

The real advice I give you is that you start this conversation with your manager, your manager's manager etc. Anywhere (in the elevator, at lunch break, at golf etc.). But you don't tell him that the company is a BS. You tell him some BS about your life. Say for example, that your health is dictating you to take a break but you do not want to quit because you'd appreciate something from the company etc. Be wise. Like Trump said you "don't have cards", but I tell you: you do have cards but not many. So play wisely
