@ne This has been going on for decades and there's plenty data to show how tech, finance, pharma, trucking, and many other industries have used the corrupt H1B, OPT, F1, and other visa programs to exploit workers, shift money to the c-suite through fraudulent use of these visa programs, and offshore millions more U.S. jobs.

The visa applications weren’t filed by Microsoft directly. They were submitted on Microsoft’s behalf by Integreon Managed Solutions (India) Pvt. Ltd. an outsourcing firm based in INDIA, acting on Microsoft’s behalf.

Meanwhile, Microsoft’s presence in India is booming... backed by a string of agreements with the Indian government. Executives have assured employees there will be no layoffs in India, only more hiring while Americans are told more layoffs are coming.

Living in Redmond for 15 years, I can confirm that H1B visa holders have displaced many citizens. It's an open secret at Microsoft when a new visa-holding manager comes in, teams are usually replaced with their compatriots within about 18 months.

Meta, Salesforce etc are doing the same in betting the farm in this AI gold rush investment; getting rid of employees to find the funds

Hate to say it but in order to fund $80 billion for AI investments they are going to displace a lot more than 10k employees from North America, Europe

@e0 And what about the h1bs that have their education in the US. I can bet that a sizable portion of the h1bs in MS had at least their graduate education, if not college, in the US. I get it that the layoffs are hard and it's making everyone emotional, but let's not devolve to hating and voicing opinions that we feel are facts.

@dt facts were stated, not opinions, those are balanced comments from real life experience.
It gets worse....roll back the clock 5 years, no AI to help, ok...we need more people, yes, h1b's fill a gap, paid less, quality of work less, but regardless, fills a gap.
Now today....AI tools are good, getting better, do we need lower paid h1b's from a country where the education system is not as good?
Ask yourself that question, look into the future and state what the right move is, state why, and no rants, and no criticism, let the forum vote and decide...

@dr Thank goodness you're not in charge of decision making as your bigotry would stop you from making any good decision that's if you could. If the h1bs are so bad, then why has MS and similar companies still grown by leaps and bounds. I bet you would say is the local talent that has made it so. In your hateful head, all h1bs are slackers.

it's true some american's could work harder and they are not cheap, but more often, I see H1B's pretend to work hard, or slack as much, usually worse.
I think the main thing here, is that locally trained american's with good communication skills are still the top talent, and by far.
I have also seen huge favoritism for Indian workers, workers that are slackers, yes from India, and not let go.
Does this make sense, no, it's favoritism.
Leaving Indian workers in place that come over here, are entitled, ride the system, cost the company more than they are worth, not ok.
Look, I get it, the VP is from India, fires the white folks because they have opinions that differ from theirs.
Keeps the heads down foreign workers that are quietly stashing their unearned paychecks, while plotting their return to India to retire as fat cats.
If you want an efficient well run team, it going to take more than "saving" money on these pretenders. Cut the h1b's first, then focus on real talk with your local workers who can't run to a country to retire on a mere 250k.
Do the right thing, it will pay off huge, and stop wasting money on the facade you think is a bargain.
